IMPORTANT ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION:

1.  OPPORTUNITIES FAIR:  TODAY (Wednesday) is the Opportunities Fair which
includes non-profit organizations, government agencies and local
companies.  Hosted by the Career Resource Center and the Office of
Community Service, the fair will be held in the Rion Ballroom in the Reitz
Union from 9 am to 3 pm.  Bring your Gator 1 card for admittance. For more

2.  O'CONNELL CENTER EVENTS:  Interested in finding out about fantastic
events? Then subscribe to the O'Connell Center listserv by sending an
e-mail to [log in to unmask] or check out our website at
http://www.oconnellcenter.ufl.edu.  Please call 392-5500 for more
information.

3.  NUTRITION IN THE FITNESS CENTERS:  Info sessions, walk-in hours, and nutrition
appraisals by licensed nutritionists…all free for students! For more information, check out

4.  VOTE ON ELECTION DAY:  TUESDAY NOVEMBER 5:  Students, the November 5
election will have an impact on your representation both at the state and
local level. Specifically, local Amendment 2 will decide the future
composition of the Gainesville City Commission and your representation as
students, and state Amendment 11 will affect the structure of the
governance of universities. Students please remember to "Rock the Vote" on
November 5!

EDUCATIONAL ENHANCEMENT ACTIVITIES:

5.  CHARITY VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT:  The Office of Community Service will
be holding its annual charity volleyball tournament on Sunday, December 8,
2002 at 9 am.  VT2002 will be held at the Southwest Rec. Sand Volleyball
Courts.  VT2002 is a 6 on 6 tournament sand volleyball tournament, with
each team consisting of up to 10 players.  Registration costs are $15 per
player if registering a team, and $17 for individuals. Deadline for
registering is November 22. Come on out for a good time, and help "Service

6.  FLORIDA ALTERNATIVE BREAKS:  Florida Alternative Breaks (FAB) is
accepting applications for our 2002-2003 spring breaks. FAB is a unique
opportunity to really make a difference in a community this spring break.
Our issues this year are Low Income Housing, Urban Poverty, Urban Regional
Planning, the Elderly, Equal Education, HIV/AIDS, and Rural Communities.
There is no experience like this on campus.  Come and be a part of the 10
year tradition. Applications are due November 8 and are available in the
Office of Community Service and at the Student Activities Center.  Any

7.  ASIAN AMERICAN KALEIDOSCOPE OPENING CELEBRATION:  November is Asian
American Kaleidoscope Month, and the Asian Student Union will be kicking
off with a celebration at the Reitz Union Rion Ballroom during Gator
Nights this Friday, November 1, at 8:30 pm.  The spoken word/poetry troupe
Isangmahal Arts Kollective and DMC finalist Kuttin Kandi will be
performing, and there will be a dance party afterwards.  Everyone is

8.  AMERICAN METEOROLOGICAL SOCIETY:  Do you have an interest in
hurricanes, tornadoes, hailstorms, El Nino, global warming...?  Are you
doing any weather related research?  The UF chapter of the American
Meteorological Society (AMS) welcomes all majors to the meeting on
Thursday, October 31 at 5 pm in NEB 386.  We will talk about trips,
activities or speakers that we'll be having for the remainder of the fall.

9.  FREE FRUIT FROM SG:  The Health Programming Cabinet of Student
Government will be providing free fruit in the Reitz Union colonnade
tomorrow, Thursday October 31, from 10 am to 2 pm.  This is a delicious
opportunity to partake in a healthy and nutritious alternative to the
widely consumed candy during Halloween.  All are welcome to stop by the
colonnade and join The Health-Programming Cabinet in making this day not
one of horror but of health!

10.  STUDENT HEALTH OUTREACH TEAM:  Make A Difference!!  Be involved
improving student health care!!  The Student Health Outreach Team (SHOT)
invites you to attend a meeting Tuesday November 5th at 5:30 pm in Yon
Hall – Room 271 – between Gates 12 & 13 in the Stadium. Refreshments

11.  AUDITIONS:  VOX: Voices for Planned Parenthood is holding auditions
for the upcoming production of Jane: Abortion and the Underground on
Wednesday, October 30 from 6:30-9 pm in Weimer Hall #1076.  Please bring a
prepared 1-2 minute monologue and additional materials will be provided.

12.  CANNED FOOD AND TOY DRIVE:  Would you like to make a difference?
Participate in our annual canned food and toy drive. "Come and Get In The
Mood! Bring in Some Food or Even a Toy To Spread Some Joy." Help us spread
the Christmas spirit to hundreds of children in third world countries;
such as Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Peru, and Bolivia, who suffer from cancer,
AIDS, or malnutrition. Our annual collection will go from October 21st to
December 14, 2002. Donations can be dropped off at:  La Casita, 202
Peabody Hall, and the Office of Community Service on the 3rd floor of the
Reitz Union.  All donations are greatly appreciated. For more information

13.  SAACURH 2002 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:  An exciting leadership/volunteer
opportunity with no experience or skills needed! The Mass Productions
Director of UF's South Atlantic Affiliate of College and University
Residence Halls' 2002 Conference needs 40 volunteers for the to escort
conference groups around campus the evenings of Friday, November 8, and
Saturday, November 9. If you are available for any or all times or know

14.  2003 LEGISLATIVE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM:  The Office of the Provost
sponsors four interns to serve with members of the Gator Caucus in the
Florida legislature during Spring and Summer A 2003.  Juniors and seniors
with a 3.4 GPA are invited to apply to intern in Tallahassee.
Applications are available in the University Honors Program Office in 140
Tigert Hall.  The deadline for applying will be Friday, November 1 at 4
pm.  All materials, including a faculty letter of recommendation, must be
submitted by that date.  Questions about the program can be directed to
