I am doing research ( for my PhD) on mathematical models for online
communities, esp. newsgroups. My starting point has been Jon Kleinberg
"Authoritative sources in a hyperlinked environment". From there I have
now travelled all the way to Barry Wellman "Computer Networks as social
Networks" and also to William Richards "Eigen Analysis of Networks".
My question now is: are there any other concepts in finding "authorities
and hubs" or experts and activists by using only mathematical concepts
such as Eigen Analysis of adjacency matrices?
Secondly: Where can I find papers concerning this topic?
My long term objective is to describe life, evolution (and maybe death)
of newsgroup by non-invasive-methods,e.g. without the need to explicitly
ask the newsgroup, just by listening, and without using personilzed
Every information is highly appreciated.
