The Academic Advancement Center of Ohio University announces the
availability of the following administrative position:
Title: CAP Coordinator
Date Available: January 1, 2003, or as search is concluded.
Salary: $34,937 minimum. Continuation past August 31, 2001, contingent on
continued receipt of Student Support Services grant from the U.S.
Department of Education. Grant is approved through August, 2005.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree in counseling, student personnel,
or related field required. Must have at least three years' experience
counseling or advising students in a post-secondary institution, with
preference given to those who have worked with disadvantaged students in
academic advising as well as career, financial, and personal counseling.
Must relate effectively with a diverse students population. Must have
excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills, as well
as organizational skills. Word processing, database management, and email
communication are essential; familiarity with SIS is helpful.
Description of Responsibilities:
The College Adjustment Program (CAP)
Coordinator is responsible for the overall functioning of the CAP Program,
a TRIO Student Support Services program funded by the U.S. Department of
Education and under the direction of the Academic Advancement Center
Director. CAP provides a wide range of academic support services to
qualified students: those who have academic need for the services and who
are first generation college students, who are from low income families,
and/or have a documented disability.
Primary foci of the position include:
1. Coordinating the recruitment, selection, and orientation of eligible
Ohio University students into CAP.
2. Hiring, training, and supervising a number of undergraduate Peer
Advisors and Graduate Associate.
3. Advising CAP participants on academic, personal, financial, and
career issues.
4. Monitoring academic progress of each student.
5. Coordinating quarterly advising activities of the Center staff.
6. Providing counseling to probationary participants.
7. Maintaining database of students for program planning and quarterly
reporting to the Director.
8. Collaborating with other offices for enabling students' success.
9. Communicating program information to various audiences, including
students, faculty, administrative staff, and parents.
The CAP Counselor joins a team of dedicated instructors and administrators
in the Academic Advancement Center, which sponsors a variety of academic
support services to undergraduate students.
