Dr. Charles Joyner, Burroughs Distinguished Professor of Southern History
and Culture at Coastal Carolina University, will talk about - and play
examples of - jazz ranging from ragtime through modern jazz in his
presentation "Colorblind Southern Jazz: Subverting Jim Crow." Sponsored by
the Howe Society, which supports the Department of Special and Area Studies
Collections at the George A. Smathers Libraries

Plaza of the Americas in front of Library West
The UF Smathers Libraries will sponsor a "150 Readers" Read-A-Thon for
National Library Week on April 7-11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. under a canopy in
front of Library West. Faculty, local authors, staff, and students will read
excerpts from their own or their favorite works of literature. For more
