Does anyone knows of research being done on the emergence/evolution of
social networks in MMORPGs (massively multi-player on-line role playing
games - like Everquest or Dark
Ages of Camelot)? We have some (very) preliminary indications from our
research that the toplogies of the social networks which emerge in these
'virtual world' games can be very different, even between different server
communities within the same game. Our hypothesis is that these differences
may be related to, (among other things), very subtle differences in rules
governing apsects of competition and collaboration.
Would very much appreciate learning of any
references/individuals/suggestions which may be relevant. Will be happy to
compile and share the list of references with all.
Thanks and regards,
