To those interested in network visualization:
2003 Graph Drawing Contest -- Call for Participation (www.gd2003.org)
As in previous years, the graph drawing community is organizing a contest
in conjunction with their annual symposium (GD 2003 will be held in Perugia,
Italy, September 21-24).
This year, the format has been redesigned significantly.
The three most important changes are
* the task is quite general and can be addressed in many ways
* _all_ submissions of sufficiently high standard will be
- referenced in the Contest Report in the conference proceedings
(published in Lecture Notes in Computer Science, Springer)
- proposed to the editors of a special issue of the (high-standard)
Journal of Graph Algorithms and Applications (www.jgaa.info)
with the best papers of the symposium for consideration in a
section devoted to the contest
* there is a single, EUR 1000,- prize for the best entry
(according to the judgement of the contest jury, which I happen to be in)
The theme for 2003 is "drawing graphs within graphs", and contributors are
free to address it any way they like (i.e. devise means to show groups in
networks, emphasize a subnetwork, visualize triad counts, etc.), though at
least one visualization has to be part of any submission.
Two data sets are provided to spark your creative thinking:
* a social network [sic!]
* a biological network
Details on the contest, contact addresses, etc. are available from the
symposium web site, http://www.gd2003.org/
submission deadline is August 15.
Hoping for interesting submission from sna folks,
B.
