RE: Graduate Student Poster Symposium

I apologize for utilizing this listserv again, but there is an
important change in the guidelines for the President's Inaugural
Graduate Student Poster Symposium. This format is not conducive to
research in the humanities and social sciences, as disciplines in
these fields do not make presentations using posters. Due to the
limited space and time frame for the symposium, formal paper
presentations are not possible.

In order to fairly include these disciplines, a limited number of
paper abstracts will be accepted and displayed along side the
accepted posters. Also, the abstracts and the papers themselves
will be compiled in CD format and given to Dr. Machen, allowing
him to view the complete project. Students who have paper
abstracts accepted will also be required to attend the Symposium
during President Machen's visit.

Students enrolled in fall 2004 are eligible to submit abstracts
for research presented during the previous academic year or
scheduled for presentation during the upcoming school year at a
juried academic confernece. The deadline for abstract submissions
is August 16. Those accepted will be notified no later than August
23. As with the posters, the Graduate Student Council Execuive
Board will judge submissions and create a program based on high
quality of research and diversity among departments.

Thank you for your time.

Mike Bowen
Graduate Student Council President
Department of History
