GLOBAL CULTURE

Photography Competition



The University of Florida International Center and the Transnational and
Global Studies Center invite students, faculty, staff and alumni to enter
its first annual international photography competition. There are four
categories. Each entrant may submit up to two prints in only one chosen
category. All photographs must portray the theme "Global Culture."  An
exhibition of all winning photos will be mounted in early Spring semester.
All winning entries will become the property of the International Center,
with appropriate acknowledgement of the photographers.



Awards: Judges will award a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each of four
categories. 1st prize winners will each receive $200, 2nd prize winners will
receive $100 and 3rd prize winners will receive $50. Total prizes to be
awarded: $1,400.



Deadline: All entries must be received by October 25, 2004 at the address
below. Winners will be notified by December 22, 2004.



Categories: Enter one category only.

1)      Study Abroad Students: Open to all current students who have taken
part in a University of Florida Study Abroad program in 2003 or 2004.
Photographs must have been taken during a Study Abroad trip and reflect the
competition theme of "Global Culture." (This category is not open to
photography and photojournalism majors, who should instead enter Category
4.)



2)      International Students: Open to all current University of Florida
international students. Photographs may have been taken anywhere in the
U.S., meeting the theme of "Global Culture." (This category is not open to
photography and photojournalism majors, who should instead enter Category
4.)



3)      Faculty, Staff and Alumni: Open to all current or retired University
of Florida faculty and staff, as well as UF alumni. Photographs may have
been taken anywhere abroad, reflecting the theme of "Global Culture."
(Photography and photojournalism professors and instructors are not eligible
to be considered for awards but are invited to submit up to two prints at
this time for possible inclusion in a future exhibition.)



4)      Photography and photojournalism students: Open to all current
University of Florida students majoring in photography or photojournalism.
Photographs may have been taken anywhere abroad and reflect the theme of
"Global Culture."







Send or deliver all entries no later than October 25th 2004 to:

Rules: Choose one appropriate category. Submit no more than two prints; each
print constitutes a single entry. Prints may be no smaller than 8 x 10
inches and no larger than 8.5 x 11 inches. Prints will not be returned.
Winners, when notified, must be willing to loan original negatives or
digital files for possible future exhibition. (Do not submit negatives or
digital files at this time.) All photographs must have been taken in 2003 or
2004.



On the back of each print, clearly include the following: Your name,
Telephone number, E-mail address, Title of photo and Caption of no more than
one sentence. You must also indicate the category number listed below.
Photographs not meeting these requirements may be disqualified.



Winning entries will become the property of the International Center and may
be used for UFIC publications and websites.  They will remain with the
International Center and may be displayed in public areas.
