A colleague and I published an essay a couple of years back predicting
that knowledge management (which was hot at the time) would inevitably
lead to systems of knowledge commerce, and discussion puts me in mind of
that idea. We argued that the ethicality of such systems is a function
of the extent to which they are transparent vs. opaque, and inclusive
vs. exclusive. In case anyone is interested, the cite is
Trethewey, A., and Corman, S. R. (2001). Anticipating K-Commerce:
E-Commerce, knowledge management, and organizational communication.
Management Communication Quarterly, 14(4), 619-628.
Best regards,
Steve
