Subject: Natural Disaster in Sri Lanka (donations needed urgently)
Dear friends, colleagues, and comrades,
As you all know Sri Lanka has been destroyed heavily by the Tsunami four
days ago. As some of you might remember me and some friends of mine are
running a rehabilitation program in Vavuniya, in the Northern part of
the island, with our NGO "Social, Economical, and Environmental
Developers" (SEED). SEED was founded in 1994 in Vavuniya/Sri Lanka and
works in fields such as housing, work (re)integration, eco-farming, and
health care. Especially, we are working with female headed families. All
our programs are run together with the families and independently from
the government. Fortunately, our projects in the North are not effected
by the natural disaster.
We are running a support structure together with the local NGO
consortium in the Vanni area to help those people living at the coast
line in the North and the East. Apart from the dead figures and bodies,
we focus on the injured people and the rest who stay alive. They all
need assistance in various ways such as immediate relief supplies (dry
food, clothes, medicines), drinking water, and shelters.
As of now, we are expecting two additional problems and therefore need
your financial support as well: First, it seems that we unavoidably have
to face diseases like Cholera and Diphtheria in the East, South, and
North. Secondly, due to the earth quake and the following storm tide all
areas cleaned from land mines or identified as areas covered with land
mines (due to the "civil" war the last 20 years) are mingled again.
Nevertheless, food supply and clean water are currently the main
To mend the worst consequences in the area and to help the Sri Lankan
people we established two "Rapid Reaction Funds":
