ADMINISTRATIVE ANNOUNCEMENTS

1. SECURITY UPDATES:
The UF IT Security Team would like to welcome all new and returning
students and remind them of what they can do to protect their computers
and personal data. Please visit our website to learn safe computing
information: http://infosec.ufl.edu/athome. Don't forget that you have
access to FREE anti-virus software: http://www.software.ufl.edu/mcafee/.

stay informed.

2. REGISTRAR ANNOUNCEMENTS:
FALL 2005 SCHEDULE ADJUSTMENT: Schedule adjustment for Fall 2005 will
continue through August 9, 11- 21.

ENHANCING THE UNDERGRADUATE EXPERIENCE

3. SERVICE: The Volunteer Center of Alachua County:
Looking to volunteer? The Volunteer Center of Alachua Country is a
non-profit organization that has teamed up with over 100 local agencies to
provide a link to couple volunteers with an array of volunteer
opportunities all around Gainesville and Alachua County. Log on to the
Volunteer Gateway at www.volunteergateway.org to search for opportunities
that interest you, or call The Volunteer Center at (352) 378-2552.

4. SERVICE: Crisis Line Counselors Needed:
The Alachua County Crisis Center is seeking volunteers to become Crisis
Line Counselors. Sixty hours of training are provided. This is an
opportunity to impact the community and to gain life-enhancing
communication skills. The next training class begins May 14. Please

5. SERVICE: Leukemia and Lymphoma Society:
The Gainesville team of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in
Training (TNT) program is hosting a luncheon on May 14 from 12:00-1:30 pm
at Carrabba's on 3021 SW 34th St. Tickets are $10 and entitle you to a
full meal, speakers, and a silent auction. The money earned will fund
blood-related cancer research. TNT trains volunteers to participate in
endurance events while they raise money for research. Please support this
great cause while enjoying some delicious food. To learn more about TNT,

6. SERVICE: CARES Cancer Organization:
Cancer Awareness and Raising Emotions through Sports is a new UF cancer
organization that is heavily recruiting for the summer and fall terms. If
you are looking to make an impact throughout Florida and even in
international cancer centers through service and funding, please e-mail
[log in to unmask] for more information and summer meeting times.
Leadership positions are currently available.

7. RESEARCH: InvestiGators Research Positions:
There are currently research positions being offered within the
InvestiGators, dealing primarily with nutrition and metabolism. The
InvestiGators is comprised of students from various disciplines who are
interested in meaningful research. There are three teams within the
InvestiGators: the Gator Team (pediatric HIV research), the Carnitine Team
(research with specific metabolic functioning), and the KetoGator Team
(pediatric epilepsy research). For more information, please visit

interviewing for new members to begin Summer C. Interviews will begin May
23, and all those interested should contact us at

8. OPPORTUNITY: Free Library Orientations:
The George A. Smathers Libraries are offering free, walk-in orientations
to the library. Upcoming orientations will be held on May 17 from 11:00
am-12:15 pm and on May 18 from 3:30-4:45 pm. All sessions are held in L107
Marston Science Library, on the ground floor. No registration is needed.
Participants should bring their Gator-1 card to use the computers. For
further information, call 392-2828. Learn which library to use, what
library services are available, how to use the libraries from home, where
to get help when needed, and take a library tour to find out how it's
arranged. All subject areas are covered.

9. OPPORTUNITY: Public Health:
Have you considered the exciting field of Public Health? Qualified
students can begin their journey towards a Master of Public Health degree
in their senior year. The College of Public Health & Health Professions at
UF offers a combined degree program that allows you to apply 15 credit
hours of public health courses to both your undergraduate degree and your
master's degree in public health. Alternatively, you can complete your
undergraduate program and then enter the MPH program, a 48- credit option
that takes two years to complete. For more information, visit our website

10. OPPORTUNITY: Leisure Courses:
Leisure Courses start the week of May 16, so sign up now to reserve your
spot! Registration is available 24 hrs/day at www.union.ufl.edu/leisure.

11. OPPORTUNITY: Student Season Tickets to UF Performing Arts Events:
If you enjoy music, dance, Broadway shows, and much more, the Phillips
Center is the place to be. The season begins in September and runs through
May. With student affiliate membership, you can order your tickets before
they go on sale to the public. You may also enjoy a beginning of the
season reception in the Black Box following one of the performances. You
will receive the Onstage newsletter, and your name will be listed in the
program for all performances. The price to join and receive all of these
benefits is $35 for the whole season. For more information, please visit:

12. OPPORTUNITY: Spinal Tech:
Spinal Tech is now hiring until May 13. Crew Members are responsible for
helping set up complex professional audio, video, lighting and projection
equipment for various events taking place throughout the UF campus. Please

http://www.union.ufl.edu/jobs/. Note: You must select Spinal Tech as your
first choice, and you must be a registered UF student to apply. Previous
technical experience is encouraged but not required for employment.

13. OPPORTUNITY: Gator Dining Meal Plan Information:
Gator Dining Meal Plan Membership information is now available for Summer
2005 as well as Fall 2005 / Spring 2006. Please visit www.gatordining.com
or stop by our business office for brochures. We are located on Fletcher
Drive, next to the Infirmary and across from Academic Advising. You may

14. OPPORTUNITY: UF Nutrition Study:
Vegetarian Women and Men Needed for a UF Nutrition Study. If you are: a
vegetarian (including vegan), female or male, 18-49 years old, healthy,
non-smoking, non-pregnant or nursing, not taking prescription medication
(except for oral contraceptives); and if you are willing to: provide
medical history information, complete a dietary questionnaire, and have
blood drawn once (following an overnight fast), then you are eligible to
participate in this study. You will be paid $50 for completing the study.

15. EVENT: Gatorade Sports Science Institute Speaker:
Meet Dr. Robert Murray, director of the Gatorade Sports Science Institute.
Dr. Murray will speak about the science of sport drinks on May 12 at 12:00
pm in 100C Florida Gym. Sponsored by the Center for Exercise Science at
the College of Health and Human Performance. Call 392-9575 for more
