ENHANCING THE UNDERGRADUATE EXPERIENCE

1. LEADERSHIP: Staff Positions available at The Warrington Times (All Majors!)
The Warrington Times, the Business School newsletter, is currently looking
for dedicated students from all majors to join our staff as journalists,
PR coordinators, cartoonists, and photographers. Applications are
available at http://grove.ufl.edu/~bacc and are due September 16. Please

2. LEADERSHIP: Ad Hoc Committee on Sustainability - Positions Available
Two positions for students are now available on the Ad Hoc Committee on
Sustainability. The Committee on Sustainability will serve as the
university's coordinating and representative body regarding all aspects of
sustainability. More information can be found at the following web sites:

through the online application process of the Division of Student Affairs

3. LEADERSHIP: Project MASCOT/CHAMPS Mentoring
Enjoy spending time with kids? Become a Project MASCOT mentor! Not only
will you serve as a mentor and role model, but you will also go on a trip
to Sea World. Orientations will be held at the Reitz Union September 8
from 8-9PM, and September 14 and 15 from 7-8PM in room 282. There will
also be openings in the companion program CHAMPS, which involves sharing
just one hour a week with a struggling elementary or middle school student
who needs a friend. For more information, visit

4. LEADERSHIP: Black History Month 2006 Leadership Positions
Applications for the Black History Month 2006 Promotional Team and Program
Planners are available at the Black Student Union office in Reitz Union
Room 323. Interested members must have strong dedication, commitment,
enthusiasm, and work ethic for all avenues of Black History Month 2006.
Completed applications for the Promo Team are due by 5pm September 16.
Any questions may be directed to Lauren DuBose, Promotions Director, at

5. LEADERSHIP: Dance Marathon Captain Applications Available
Come get involved in the largest student run philanthropy in the
Southeast! Dance Marathon captain applications are available in the Dance
Marathon office located in the Student Activities Center, room 310 of the
Reitz Union. Applications are due September 14 by 5pm. For more

6. SERVICE: Gator Plunge this Saturday
September 10 the Center for Leadership and Service invites you to join us
at Gator Plunge, the official kick-off of the 50 Million Minutes of
Service campaign and the first all-campus volunteer project of the year.
Volunteer with Keep Alachua County Beautiful, Habitat for Humanity, and
other local nonprofits. Registration starts at 8am at the Plaza of the
Americas and the event ends at 1pm. For more information, contact the

7. SERVICE: Recurso General Meeting
Recurso is a non-profit student organization made up of a diverse group of
students that strive to raise awareness and aid for issues such as global
development, healthcare and poverty alleviation in developing countries.
We will be having our first general meeting of the year September 12 at

8. SERVICE: Florida Alternative Breaks
Do you like volunteering? Are you passionate about community service,
leadership, and social change? Would you enjoy leading an intensive and
academic service trip over Spring Break that is related to a regional,
national, or international issue? If so, come learn about leading a
Florida Alternative Breaks trip this Spring Break at our information
session September 13 at 7pm. For the locale of the meeting and more

9. SERVICE: Volunteer Organization Fair
Are you looking for volunteer opportunities in Gainesville? Come to the
Volunteer Organization Fair! The Center for Leadership (CLS) and Service
is hosting the VOF on Tuesday, September 13, on the Reitz Union Colonnade
from 10am - 3pm. For more information on VOF and volunteering on campus
and in your community, stop by the CLS, located in Peabody Hall, visit us

10. OPPORTUNITY: Gator Launch Mentoring Program
Have doubts about graduation or questions about your career path? Let
Gator Launch help! This career- mentoring program for sophomores or
juniors focuses on the career development of students of diverse

September 9 to be considered or attend the 6pm info session September 8 in

11. OPPORTUNITY: UFIC Open House
UF International Center hosts an Open House September 8 from 2:00 - 4:30pm
in 123 Grinter Hall. Join us to learn more about international
opportunities at UF, free pizza and refreshments.

12. OPPORTUNITY: Prestigious Scholarship Workshop
Are you a transfer student, or any upperclassmen, who's always wondered
about national scholarships like Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Goldwater,
Fulbright, etc? Come learn more about the application process and
important deadlines from Honors Program Associate Director Dr. Jeanna
Mastrodicasa and 2005 Goldwater Scholar Joey Wilson. The workshop is
sponsored by Student Government Non- Traditional Student Affairs and will
be held September 12 at 4:00pm in Room 285 of the Reitz Union. Email

13. ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITY: Distance Education Courses
UF offers 83 independent/ correspondence studies courses for students who
do not have regular access to a computer. These courses are official UF
college credit courses - UF students do not need to transfer credit.
However, students must check with their academic advisor before enrolling
to make sure all degree requirements are met. For the list of available

14. GET INVOLVED: TRiP Registration
TRiP Registration starts September 8 at noon. UF's travel and recreation
program leads outdoor adventure trips for all students including
backpacking, canoeing, rock climbing, surfing and more. Come to the
Outfitter (Ground Floor of the Reitz Union) for more information or to
pick up a schedule. Check out our newly updated website at

15. GET INVOLVED: UF Speech & Debate Team
The UF Speech & Debate Team will have an informational meeting for new
members on September 13 at 6:15pm in Rolfs Hall, room 205. The team is
open to all undergraduates - no experience or audition required! Those
who enjoy public speaking or are interested in law, politics or business
would be a few of the many who would benefit from competing with this
team. Refreshments will be provided. The Speech & Debate Team is funded by
SG. For more information, call 392-5421.

16. GET INVOLVED: Student Involvement Consultations and Organization Fair Sponsored by IDEAL
Consultations are geared toward students that want to get involved but
don't know where to start. IDEAL consultants will help students find
organizations that interest them September 7 from 4:30-7:30pm in Reitz
Union Room 123.

The Fall 2005 Student Organization Fair will take place September 14 and
September 15 at the J. Wayne Reitz Union Colonnade. Applications for
organizations are currently available at the IDEAL office, room 308 of the
Reitz Union. Please return completed applications by 5pm September 9.

17. EVENT: Hurricane Preparedness
Worried about hurricanes? The Gator Amateur Radio Club presents
"Hurricanes 2005" with meteorologist Steve Letro from the National Weather
Service. Steve will be offering hurricane preparedness tips in case
Mother Nature decides to strike Gainesville this year! The event is
September 8 from 8-10pm in Reitz Union Room 349. For more info see

18. EVENT: Local Brew Concert Series
The Reitz Union Board and Student Government Productions are hosting FREE
local shows every other Thursday as part of the Local Brew concert series.
This week (September 8) the series features bands Bracelet, Dear and
Glorious Physician and Building Rockets. The show will be at the Orange
and Brew, located on the ground floor of the Reitz Union. Doors open at
8:30pm and the music starts at 9pm. All Local Brew shows are FREE and open

19. EVENT: South Asian American Student Assembly
Come and participate in the first SAASA Assembly ever, to be held
September 8 in the Rion Ballroom of the Reitz Union at 6:30pm. Watch
dances and enjoy presentations by South Asian American organizations.
See guest speaker Performance Poet Sarwat Rumi of Mango Tribe. FREE FOOD

20. EVENT: How to Save the World - Social Entrepreneurship at UF
September 8 from 12:30-1:30pm in Bryan 101A , the Center for
Entrepreneurship, the Center for Leadership & Service, and the Honors
Program at UF are pleased to present a discussion of visionary leadership
to inspire and empower you. Steven Cohen will share his story of founding
a non-profit organization, Friends for Life of America, while a student at
UF; it's the largest global student organization and it provides
emotional, educational, and financial support to pediatric cancer patients
and their families. Lunch will be provided (though quantities & seating
are limited so arrive on time). Contact Dr. Kristin Joos at

21. EVENT: ACCENT Presents Mark Sterner and Gen. Wesley K. Clark
Mark Sterner will present 'DUI: A Powerful Lesson' September 13 at 6:30pm
and 8:30pm at the JWRU Grand Ballroom. Sterner's life changed drastically
when three of this best friends and fraternity brothers were killed in a
car crash during spring break. Sterner was at the wheel of the car,
intoxicated, and ended up with three felony manslaughter convictions.
Four-Star General Wesley K. Clark will speak as part of the September 11
Memorial Series. Hear him September 14 at 8:00pm in the Stephen C.
O'Connell Center. His visit is free and open to the public. Doors will
open at 7:00pm General Clark, former NATO Supreme Allied Commander and
Democratic Presidential nominee will speak about his expertise in current
military conflicts around the world.

22. EVENT: Showcase Essentials
Have you started your internship of full-time job search? Learn how to
market yourself to employers at Showcase Essentials, and then meet
employers at Career Showcase. Attend one or all of the workshops between
your classes September 14-16 in Reitz Union 362. Check
