ENHANCING THE UNDERGRADUATE EXPERIENCE

1. RESEARCH: Carnegie Junior Fellows Program:
The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace is a private, nonprofit
organization dedicated to advancing cooperation between nations and
promoting active international engagement by the United States. Each
year, the Carnegie Endowment holds a rigorous national competition to
select 8-10 graduating senior to serve as research assistants. Junior
Fellows spend one year (beginning August 1) at headquarters in Washington,
DC. Positions are full-time and include salary and a benefits package.
The deadline to apply for a nomination from UF is December 14. For
additional information, you may contact Regan Garner in the University

2. RESEARCH: Undergraduate Research Seminar:
If you are performing or are interested in research in chemical or
biological sciences, you are invited to attend or present at the monthly
Undergraduate Research Seminar to be held December 1 at the Academic
Research Building, Room R3-265 (conference room) on starting at 2:30pm.
This is a great opportunity to meet research faculty that have undergrads
in their laboratories and learn about the exciting and groundbreaking
research being done at UF. If you are already working on a project, then
you are welcome to present your data and get feedback from professors in a
variety of disciplines. For more information, please contact Taylor

3. SERVICE: Volunteer at Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings State Park:
Greet visitors and provide guided tours through the historic farm house,
or help maintain the grounds, gardens, buildings, and artifacts. Some
volunteers also help create special events, conduct fund raising
activities, manage special projects like creating oral histories or
researching tenant farm life, coordinate grant requests and management,
and helping us to maintain good contacts within our community. Contact

4. SERVICE: Hearts for the Holidays:
Hearts for the Holidays is an event in which Friends for Life of America
and volunteers ask the local community to make holiday cards for pediatric
cancer patients who must remain in the hospital during the holiday season.
There will be tables set up around campus from Monday, November 28 to
Monday, December 5 with all of the supplies needed to make a card.
Please stop by to help spread the holiday cheer!

5. SERVICE: 5K Run Benefiting Teach for America:
Phi Sigma Pi Coed National Honor Fraternity hosts a Sponsored 5K
benefiting Teach for America on December 4 at 9am. Participants will meet
in the Commuter Lot. For more information or to sign up contact Erin

6. SERVICE: "Coats and Cans" Drive:
The Student Health Outreach Team is organizing a "Coats and Cans" drive
for the holiday season. Clean jackets and canned foods are being
collected to give to the local homeless of Gainesville. Collection boxes
are located on each floor of the Student Health Care Center and Yon Hall
until December 2.

7. OVERSEAS STUDY: Spring Break Program Information Session:
Study Abroad in the European Union during Spring Break 2006! Trip
includes Brussels, Luxembourg, Strasbourg, Brugge and Paris (or
Amsterdam). Information Session next Tuesday, November 29 at Dauer Hall
215, 4pm to 6pm. For more information, contact Bernadette Cesar-Lee

8. OPPORTUNITY: Join the Official Florida Gymnastics Student Fan Club:
The Rumblin' Tumblin' Reptiles are holding registration now through early
January. Admission to meets is free to students and there is no charge to
join the RTR. Members will receive a free t-shirt and have the
opportunity to travel to the SEC Championship meet in Birmingham. To

9. OPPORTUNITY: Submissions for TEA Literary Magazine:
The English Society is now accepting submissions for TEA, our literary
magazine, through December 31. Submissions can include poetry, fiction,
creative non-fiction, or graphic art. The limit for poetry is 3-4 poems
per person and the limit for prose is up to 12 pages. The best way to
send us submissions is digitally: send it to [log in to unmask] We
also have a mailbox on the fourth floor of Turlington in the mailroom.
This is a great opportunity for any UF student to be published, so send in
your work! Please email Christain Haines at [log in to unmask] with any
questions.

10. OPPORTUNITY: Multicultural Round Table Discussion:
Sponsored by the SG Multicultural Affairs Cabinet. Topics to be discussed
at the forum include the following: cultural Stereotypes, bridging the gap
between cultural organizations, effectiveness of SG funding for cultural
events and multicultural week programming. Dr. Mary Kay Schneider from
the Dean of Students Office will be in attendance to discuss issues
relating to the University's administrative policies as well as to answer
any questions you may have concerning your organizations. The event will
take place on Wednesday, November 30 at 5pm in the Reitz Union, B74-75.
Refreshments will be served.

EVENTS

11. EVENT: Asian American Forum:
Delta Phi Omega and Kappa Phi Lambda will host an informative and
educational forum on the state of Asian American resources at the
University of Florida. The panel will be designed as a question and
answer session discussing the need for a Director of Asian American
affairs on campus. This event is a part of Kaleidoscope Month. The panel
will be held on Tuesday November 29, at the New Physics Building room 1002
at 7pm.

12. EVENT: Movie and Speaker Monday Night:
IJ-Spot: A Sex Educator Tells All will be making a speech on Monday
November 28 at 6pm followed by the "March of the Penguins" movie, playing
at 8pm, both in the Reitz Union Auditorium. Brought to you by RUB, the
Reitz Union Board. Get there early to get a seat at this FREE EVENT!
