2. SECURITY UPDATES:
Microsoft has issued a notable number of security updates this month. Five
out of 12 were given a 'critical' severity rating, which is Microsoft's
highest severity rating. Windows, MS Office, Internet Explorer, and MSN
messenger are among the programs that are at risk for vulnerabilities.
Please take a moment to update your computer with current security patches
at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and www.officeupdate.microsoft.com.
The UF IT security team thanks you for being aware and responsible. To
help us further learn how to protect you, take our online survey:
http://infosec.ufl.edu/cgi-bin/survey/, and don't forget to pick up safe
computing tips at: http://infosec.ufl.edu/athome/.

Instant message virus and worm attacks are on the rise. Just like e-mail
viruses, your friends can become infected with a virus that will
automatically send itself to you in the form of an instant-message. These
can come from anyone on your buddy list, and you should make sure when
someone sends you a link that they really meant to send it. Some viruses
plant links inside of Away Messages and Profiles, so be careful clicking
on those too! Please take caution when you're using IM, just like you
would with e-mail. To read more about IM attacks, visit:
http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-3513_7-6072173.html. Visit:
http://www.software.ufl.edu/mcafee/ to download the latest version of
McAfee VirusScan.
