ADMINISTRATIVE ANNOUNCEMENTS

1.  SECURITY UPDATES:
The UF IT Security Team would like to welcome all new and returning
students and remind them of what they can do to protect their computers
and personal data. Please visit our website to learn safe computing
information: http://infosec.ufl.edu/athome. Don't forget that you have
access to FREE anti-virus software: http://www.software.ufl.edu/mcafee/.
Also, take a minute to complete our end-user survey:
http://infosec.ufl.edu/cgi-bin/survey/. The UF IT Security Team wants to
help you protect your computer and data. We appreciate your efforts to
stay informed.

2.  REGISTRAR ANNOUNCEMENTS:
FALL 2005 SCHEDULE ADJUSTMENT: Schedule adjustment for Fall 2005 will
continue through August 9 and 11-21.

S/U OPTION DEADLINE SUMMER C: May 27

WITHDRAWAL FROM ALL COURSES WITH 25% REFUND SUMMER C: May 27

Students who want to register to vote in Alachua County can obtain
information at the website of the Supervisors of Elections at
http://elections.alachua.fl.us/voting_registration.html.


ENHANCING THE UNDERGRADUATE EXPERIENCE

3.  SERVICE: The Volunteer Center of Alachua County:
Looking to volunteer? The Volunteer Center of Alachua Country is a
non-profit organization that has teamed up with over 100 local agencies to
provide a link to couple volunteers with an array of volunteer
opportunities all around Gainesville and Alachua County. Log on to the
Volunteer Gateway at www.volunteergateway.org to search for opportunities
that interest you, or call The Volunteer Center at (352) 378-2552.

4.  SERVICE: WellFlorida Council:
Volunteer opportunity available at WellFlorida Council, a non-profit
organization that brings vital healthcare services to local needy
residents. We need students to help with marketing support, research and
data entry. Office is close to campus (across from Publix on University
Ave and 34th Street), flexible hours within M-F, 8:00-5:00 timeframe.

5.  LEADERSHIP: Student Membership on the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee:
Students are invited to apply for membership on the Intercollegiate
Athletics Committee (1 position available) for the 2005-2006 academic
year. The I.A.C. is the faculty-student committee which recommends
academic policies concerning athletics. Student applicants should be
enrolled on a full-time basis in a degree program, in good academic
standing, and have a record of leadership and involvement in the UF
community. Applications may be picked up in the Student Affairs Office in
155 Tigert, the Dean of Students Office in P202 Peabody, the Information
Desk in the J. Wayne Reitz Union and Student Activities in 330 Reitz.
Applications must be returned to 155 Tigert by June 17.

6.  RESEARCH: InvestiGators Research Positions:
There are currently research positions being offered within the
InvestiGators, dealing primarily with nutrition and metabolism. The
InvestiGators is comprised of students from various disciplines who are
interested in meaningful research. There are three teams within the
InvestiGators: the Gator Team (pediatric HIV research), the Carnitine Team
(research with specific metabolic functioning), and the KetoGator Team
(pediatric epilepsy research). For more information, please visit

interviewing for new members to begin Summer C. Interviews will begin May
23, and all those interested should contact us at

7.  SCHOLARSHIP: NOAA Hollings Scholarship:
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will be selecting
approximately 100 undergraduate students as Hollings Scholars starting the
Fall 2005 semester. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, juniors during the
Fall 2005 semester, and majoring in the sciences, mathematics,
engineering, or teacher education. Program information and application
materials are available at: www.orau.gov/NOAA/HollingsScholarship/. The
application deadline is May 23.

8.  OPPORTUNITY: Voice Study:
The Institute for Advanced Study of the Communication Processes at the
University of Florida is looking for people to participate in a study of
voice characteristics. We are looking for volunteers to be recorded
reading a small set of passages while lying, under stress, and both. You
can earn $30 by participating in this study. You are eligible to
participate if: English is the only language you speak fluently; you do
not have any speech or hearing problems; and you are 21-50 years old. If

9.  OPPORTUNITY: Intramurals:
Be a leader! A team leader! As a team captain, recruit friends to
participate in intramural sports. Summer A registration for indoor soccer,
softball and basketball is ongoing with no meetings to attend. For more

10. EVENT: Gator Growl Casting Call:
Have you ever wanted to grace the big screen? Gator Growl 2005 is looking
for you!  We will be holding an open casting call on May 19 from 3:00-6:00
pm in 284 Reitz Union. Don't miss your chance to be a part of Gator Growl
