1.  REGISTRAR ANNOUNCEMENT: Spring Registration
Thursday October 20: Honors registration, one course

ENHANCING THE UNDERGRADUATE EXPERIENCE

2.  RESEARCH: MAPS Research/Enrichment Forum
The Minority Association of Pre-Health Students is presenting its Fourth
Annual Research/Enrichment Forum.  The event will be held Saturday,
October 22 from 9:00am - 3:30pm in the Health Professions and Nursing
Pharmacy Building (HPNP).  Learn about Research Opportunities at UF and
around the nation, receive information on enrichment programs,
pre-professional advice, and much more.  The Forum is absolutely FREE!
Breakfast and lunch will be provided, and business casual attire is

3.  LEADERSHIP: Jewish Awareness Month 2006 Applications
JAM, which takes place is March, is a month filled with events designed to
engage the entire University of Florida student body and to provide
education and create awareness about Jewish culture, history, and religion
from a pluralistic and dynamic perspective.  If you would like to become a
part of the leadership team for JAM 2006, please visit the Jewish Student
Union website at www.ufjsu.org or contact JAM 2006 Chairman Russell Semmel
at [log in to unmask]  Applications are due Friday, October 28.

4.  SERVICE: Dodgeball Tournament
Golden Key is sponsoring a Dodgeball Tournament to benefit the charity
'Children's Table', which feeds needy local families.  The tournament will
be held this Sunday October 23 from 1pm - 6pm. Cost is $5/person for teams

5.  SERVICE: Salvation Army Clothing Drive
Nu Alpha Lambda Christian Service Organization, Inc. will be hosting a
clothing drive for the Salvation Army.  Donations will be accepted October
20, 21, 24 and 25 on Turlington Plaza between the hours of 10am and 2pm.

6.  SERVICE: Museum Nights Volunteer Staff
Museum Nights is still accepting Volunteer Staff for its upcoming Fall and
Winter Events. If interested please attend the information meeting at 8pm
this Thursday October 20 at the Florida Museum of Natural History. For

7.  OVERSEAS STUDY: Personal Growth Retreat in Canada
The Department of Psychology and the International Center are offering a
three-week Personal Growth (PCO 2715) in a wilderness retreat in Canada.
This course satisfies General Education requirements and is open to all
students.  Learn more about applying psychological theories to optimize
your personal growth and development.  For more information, contact Dr.

8.  OPPORTUNITY: Truman and Goldwater Scholarship Deadlines November 28
The Harry S. Truman Foundation offers merit-based scholarships for college
juniors with exceptional leadership potential who are committed to careers
in government, the non-profit or advocacy sectors, education, or elsewhere
in the public service.  The University of Florida has had recent success
in Truman Scholars; 2004's Max Miller, 2003's Teresa Porter, and 2002's
Michael Gale all were winners from UF. The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship
and Excellence in Education Foundation will be awarding its prestigious
undergraduate scholarships to students who have outstanding potential and
intend to pursue research and/or academic careers in mathematics, the
natural sciences, or engineering (but not in medical practice).  Recent
Goldwater Scholars from UF include 2005's Edwin Homan and Joey Wilson,
2004's David Duncan, and 2003's Robert Abel and Anup Patel.  Please refer

9.  OPPORTUNITY: Minority Premedical Forum - Applications Available
Come out and get advice from medical schools and medical students, take
advantage of numerous workshops at this year's MPF, to be held November 19
from 8:30am - 5:30pm at the Holiday Inn West Hotel and Conference Center.
The cost of attendance is $25.00.  Register early because space is
limited!  Application deadline is October 26 at 5:00pm.  For more

10. OPPORTUNITY: Dental School Interview Workshop
This workshop will be held October 21 from 1pm - 3pm in room 200 of the
Academic Advising Center.  If you are applying to medical school for the
2006 Entering Class, please consider attending this workshop.  Second year
students serious about applying to Dental Schools and students interested
in applying for the Combined BS-DMD progam are also encouraged to attend.

11. OPPORTUNITY: Gainesville Sun Campus Edition FREE to Students
The Gainesville Sun is available FREE to all UF students Monday through
Friday at the following locations: Carlton Hall, Turlington, Hub Bus Stop,
Weimer Hall, Reitz Union, Law School, Gator Corner, McCarty Hall, Science
Library and Broward Dining.  This edition provides a calendar of campus
events as well coverage of the University of Florida, Gainesville and the
region in addition to national news and opinions.

12. OPPORTUNITY: Artistic Reflections Today Art Exhibition
ART, a component of the Women's Leadership Council at UF, is an annual art
exhibition that aims to empower and educate everyone on campus by
embracing women's issues through artistic media.  The theme of this year's
contest is 'HerStory: Women Through the Ages' and the exhibition will take
place November 9 on the Reitz Union Colonnade.  Winners by popular vote
will receive great prizes.  Art submission deadline is October 28 and
submissions may be made to Nora Kilroy in the Dean of Students Office in
202 Peabody Hall.  Contact the Women's Leadership Council at

13. OPPORTUNITY: College of Education Career Night
Presented by the Student Alumni Association.  All are encouraged to attend
regardless of major.  TONIGHT from 7pm - 8:30pm in room 282 of the Reitz
Union.  It's a chance to meet and network with fellow University of
Florida College of Education alumni.  The first 100 people will receive a
UF portfolio and the chance to win a diploma frame.

14. OPPORTUNITY: Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges
The 2005 Applications are now available.  Applicants must be classified as
a Junior or above, or be a graduate or professional school student at UF.
Applications are available on campus at: P202 Peabody Hall - Dean of
Students Office; 3rd Floor Reitz Union - Student Activities Desk; 1st
Floor Reitz Union - Information Desk; 155 Tigert Hall - Student Affairs.
Applications are due by 4pm October 28 at room 155 Tigert Hall.

15. GET INVOLVED: Florida Cicerones
The Florida Cicerones will be hosting their annual Fall Information Forum
Tuesday October 25.  The Forum will last from 6pm - 8pm and will be held
in the Florida Gym.  Come learn about the Official Student Ambassadors of

EVENTS

16. EVENT: National Campus Sustainability Day October 26
Faculty, staff, and students will display various sustainability
initiatives by tabling on the Reitz Union North Lawn from 10am - 2pm next
Wednesday.  Event highlights: telecast (www.scup.org/csd/3) in Reitz Union
room 282 from 12:30pm - 2:30pm. Dr. Machen will receive recognition, on
behalf of UF, for the Audubon certification at 3:00pm followed by keynote
speaker Elisabeth C. Odum, Professor Emeritus, SFCC, on "A Prosperous Way

17. EVENT: Local Brew Concert Tomorrow Night
The Reitz Union Board and Student Government Productions are bringing you
free local music as part of the Local Brew concert series.  Thursday
October 20, the lineup includes Inuit Jargon, And This is My Odyssey, and
Alphabet City.  The show will be at the Orange and Brew, located on the
ground floor of the Reitz Union.  Doors open at 8:30pm and music starts at
9:00pm.  Local Brew shows are FREE and open to the general public.  For

18. EVENT: Candlelight Vigil TONIGHT
The Center for Leadership and Service in conjunction with Student
Government and the South Asian American Student Alliance is holding a
candlelight vigil at 7:30pm tonight in the Reitz Union Amphitheatre to
honor those who have been affected by natural disasters in the recent
months.  Students and community members are invited to show their support.
The event will feature the University Gospel Choir, a variety of speakers
and a candle lighting ceremony. Get involved and make a difference!  For

19. EVENT: The Abortion Debate
Come join VOX: Voices for Planned Parenthood and the Pro-Life Alliance for
a debate on whether abortion should be legal.  The debate will be held
Thursday October 20 from 6pm - 8pm in Flint 50.  For more information

20. EVENT: Gator Soccer this Friday Night!
UF students are invited to come to Gator Soccer this Friday night at 8pm
at James G. Pressly Stadium, when the Gators take on LSU.  Match will
feature a UF student-only drawing for a major prize.  First 1,000 fans
will receive a Gator glow button.

21. EVENT: Reid Hall Art Fest
Art Fest will take place October 22 and will include food, games, live
entertainment (Theater Strike Force and March to May among others), and an
art show of student work.  Reid Hall is the new Fine Arts educational
hall.

22. EVENT: Healthy Gators 2010 Kickoff
Come to the Healthy Gators 2010 Kickoff for fun, prizes and information
about how to become a HEALTHY Gator!  It will feature an organizational
health fair, free health screenings and special guest speaker, Mrs. Chris
Machen, first lady of the University of Florida.  The event will be held
October 26 from 10am - 2pm on the Reitz Union Colonnade.  Mrs. Machen will
