Barry - i hate to say it, but this is *never* going to happen no matter
how many times you ask it.  [Read literature on 'configuring the user' -
it's fascinating.] Not only has everyone gotten into their own habits
around email, some actually want to have the full response below.  The
default practice for most people (now that space and bandwidth are less of
a problem) is to include the entire conversation.

I think you'd be far better off finding a technology that suits your needs
than to expect a large chunk of people to change their practice.

Google actually recognizes this in their interface.  You should check out
Gmail - it automatically removes the repeated sections from visibility so
that you don't have to see them.  Conversations are threaded so that you
don't need to get a digest because the system already shows it in
digest-esque form.  I'll send you an invite.  [If anyone else needs an
