Good. I was not sure of that. Thanks for clarifying!

Gentle People, Since this reply by Joan seems to be a direct response to
my posting, I will respond. Let me begin by saying that I fail to
comprehend how what I said could possibly be construed as having any
thing other than the law of the land as stated in the first amendment,
namely:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of
religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the
freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people
peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress
of grievances."
Should anyone want to know the source of this direct quotation of the
first amendment, it is http://www.house.gov/Constitution/Amend.html.
As for my earlier paraphrase, the correct statement is: 'I disapprove of
what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it'. It
is apparently usually attributed to Voltaire, however may not have been
actually said by him. One discussion of its actual derivation is
available at http://www.quotationspage.com/quote/35374.html

I apologize in advance to those I may offend, but why are some of us
"getting our knickers into such a twist over this"? I mean if you saw
one of his televised campaigns to push privitizing Social Security that
I viewed early one morning this week, you might agree with the opinion
of the afore mentioned writer and as his budget directly influences our
work, jobs, and lives, I'd say he's fair game for discussion and
opinion.

Gentle People, Who was it that said something to the effect that whether
or not I agree with what a person is saying, I will defend to my death
their right to say it??? Last I knew, this country allowed free speech.
Has something changed here?

Personally, I am appalled that someone would have the audacity and the
disrespect to call the President of the United States an "idiot". That
lack of respect and the thoughts of disdain that fuel it are the
idicators of the shift that is harming the very fiber of our country.
I am removing my name from this listserv. I was unaware that this
group, which--or so I thought--was formed to help others, to uplift and
inspire. I am shocked at this type of correspondence. What a shame
that some would take advantage of this venue to vent political hatred!

I apologize. I did not intend for my comments to be distributed to the
entire listserv. Again my apologies. I did not mean to offend anyone
and agree that it would be unprofessional to solicit my individual
opinion to everyone.
