The Visualyzer Development team at Medical Decision Logic is pleased to announce the release of Visualyzer 1.0
VisuaLyzer is an interactive tool for entering, visualizing and analyzing network data. You can create nodes and links directly in VisuaLyzer, or import network data from edgelist/edgearray, Excel, or GraphML formats. Once the network is displayed in VisuaLyzer, you can customize visual properties such as the color, shape, size, and location of nodes and links to create an informative graphic representation. Images of your choice can be used to represent nodes. XY mapping of nodes as a function of node attributes is supported.
VisuaLyzer also provides a number of analysis functions for calculating network and nodal level indices, and for finding sub-groups, partitions, communities, and roles and positions. You can query VisuaLyzer to locate nodes and links that fulfill specific criteria. In addition, VisuaLyzer includes powerful logic programming capabilities that allow you to investigate networks using axioms of classical set theory (further functions are under development and testing). Data can be exported to UCINET and GraphML formats for additional analysis.

DETAILED FEATURES ARE:
1. NETWORK DATA ENTRY, IMPORT AND EXPORT
*Create and edit networks visually. Draw nodes and links directly in VisuaLyzer instead of typing values into a spreadsheet.
*Flexible import and export: Import or export graphs and node attributes. VisuaLyzer supports UCINET, EXCEL, GraphML, Text, and CSV file formats.
*Multiple Relations. Display and edit multiple (multiplex) relations within the same graph.
*Unlimited network size. VisuaLyzer supports unlimited number of nodes, links (edges) and attributes. (Processing speed depends on the computer's capacity.)
*N-mode network visualization. Each graph can contain any number of types of nodes - humans, organizations, buildings, etc.
*Compact binary data file. VisuaLyzer stores nodes, links and their attributes in a single .eng file.
*Publication-quality images. Export network graphs in 24-bit color bitmap, JPEG, and Windows Metafile formats.
*Under development. Enterprise VisuaLyzer with multi-user capability, a database for sharing node and link attributes across studies and graphs, and full compatibility with MDLogix applications such as Assessment Architect. We welcome your suggestions for the ongoing development of VisuaLyzer.
2. NETWORK DISPLAY/VISUALIZATION
*Standard and cutting edge layout algorithms. Along with the familiar circular and spring-embedding layouts, VizuaLyzer also includes an algorithm for layered layouts (Kozo Sugiyama) and a community algorithm (Girvan Newman). Under development: core/periphery analysis (Kernighan-Lin).
*Customizable display. Set the visual properties of nodes and links, including color, shape, size, thickness and location; changes to the network are saved internally to network matrices/edgelists.
*Define Visual Styles. Use predefined display styles or create and save custom styles.
*Display networks over time. Static images are arranged sequentially as frames in an animation and can be played back at a selected rate.
3. NETWORK ANALYSIS
*Analysis. VisuaLyzer can calculate standard network parameters such as centrality, detect subgroups, cliques, communities, and roles or positions. Development of additional algorithms is in progress.
*Querying. Nodes or links can be selected, enabled, disabled or deleted based on node attributes and link weight queries you define. The resulting sub-graphs can be saved as matrices for further processing.
*Batch processing. Network properties such as density, size, average diameter, etc. can be calculated for sets of egocentric networks. The results can be displayed in Excel format or exported to SPSS.
*User-defined algorithms. VisuaLyzer provides extensible support for user-defined social network algorithms as logic programs.
4. LOGICAL REASONING
*Knowledge networks. Conclusions about network knowledge are proved or derived using edges as statements of fact and based on the axioms of classical set theory.
*Network transformations and network solver. Boolean and relation algebraic constraints can map networks to networks. These constraints can then determine solutions to some network unknowns.
*Bigger conclusions from small. Knowledge integration is accomplished with a classical, highly symmetric collection of relation operators such as absolute and relative sums, products, and reciprocals.
*Unobtrusive technology to minimize complexity. Hidden behind the scenes are a classical complement based on constructive negation; fair, OS-like constraint scheduling; and extensive, rigorous query optimization based on representable relation algebra.
*Operating Systems. VisuaLyzer is designed to work with Windows 2000 and Windows XP; its behavior on other operating systems may be slightly different.
*Disk Space. Approximately 18 MB of disk space is required to install VisuaLyzer, including XSB programs.
*Display. Screen resolution should not be less than 1024 x 768 pixels. While not required, we recommend using a screen resolution of 1280 x 1024.
