RE: USDE Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship
The UF Center for Latin American Studies announces the competition for the
US Department of Education (USDE) Foreign Language and Area Studies Academic
Year Fellowship Program (FLAS) to support training in Brazilian Portuguese
and Haitian Creole. The fellowship covers tuition and fees for 12 graduate
credits per semester (fall and spring only) plus a stipend of $15,000.
Fellowships are awarded on a one-year basis with renewal for a second year
contingent upon academic performance.
Applicants must be UF graduate students who are US citizens or permanent
residents, and must include Brazilian Portuguese or Haitian Creole and Latin
American area courses within their proposed programs of study. Students from
any UF department or college may apply.
Priority will be given to students pursuing a master's degree; seeking
advanced language proficiency; and planning a career in US government
service or a professional field.

All applications are due 1 February 2006.
Note: FLAS Fellowship funding for the 2006-2007 academic year is contingent
upon the center receiving a grant from USDE.
