GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT - ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
1329 Building, UF Campus
The UF Department of Epidemiology & Health Policy Research and Institute for
Child Health Policy, University of Florida, seeks a Graduate Research
Assistant to assist in a variety of tasks in support of multiple social and
community epidemiology projects conducted by Drs. Komro, Maldonado-Molina,
and Wagenaar. This position is part-time, requiring 20 hours per week with
a mutually agreed upon work schedule.
Position Description
Primary responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: 1)
reviewing scientific literature and preparing written summaries of research
related to environmental determinants of child and adolescent health, 2)
assisting in grant proposal preparation, and 3) drafting selected sections
of papers and reports. Other responsibilities may include but are not
limited to: 1) organizing selected data collection efforts, 2) building data
analysis files, 3) conducting statistical analyses (SAS and Stata), and 4)
other project related tasks. Expected compensation is $16.87 per hour.
Expected start date is within April 15, 2006 to May 15, 2006, with exact
date to be negotiated.
Qualifications
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a UF doctoral program in
Environmental Engineering Sciences, Environmental Health, or related area.
Interest and experience in environmental determinants of child and
adolescent health is required (e.g. toxicology, environmental health policy,
built environments, etc.). Strength in several of the following areas is
desired:
1) writing skills, 2) scientific literature search skills using databases
such as Current Contents, 3) interpersonal and organizational skills, 4)
familiarity and interest with public policy research, 5) computer skills and
familiarity with database management software, and 6) statistical analyses.
All candidates should have clear ability to work independently, take
initiative, manage time and work with minimal supervision. Interest in
public health, prevention research, health promotion and disease prevention,
minority and health disparity issues, community change, or policy evaluation
research is desired.
