ADMINISTRATIVE ANNOUNCEMENTS

1.  REGISTRAR ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Effective fall 2006 new Criteria to achieve President's Honor Roll: 
Achieve a perfect 4.0 GPA with a minimum of 15 hours of graded academic 
course work (no S/U grades) in a fall or spring semester.

ADVANCE REGISTRATION FOR SUMMER/FALL 2006: Advance registration for 
Summer/Fall 2006 continues through April 13.  Check Registration 
Preparation Information on ISIS at http://www.isis.ufl.edu.

REMINDER: Friday, April 14 is the deadline to drop a spring class by 
college petition or withdraw from all spring classes without receiving 
failing grades.


ENHANCING THE UNDERGRADUATE EXPERIENCE

2.  RESEARCH: University Scholars Symposium:
On Saturday, April 8 from 8:30am to 1pm, the 2005-2006 University Scholars 
Symposium will be held in Anderson Hall.  Undergraduate students from all 
disciplines will be presenting the results of their research in 15-minute 
blocks.  Please stop by to show your support for your fellow classmates in

3.  LEADERSHIP: PAACT Peer Volunteer Applications Available:
Applications for summer and fall PAACT Peer Volunteers are available. 
PAACT is a transition program for incoming minority students which 
promotes teamwork and networking.  Through an effective week- long program 
of familiarization and initiation to the new environment, continual 
career-long advisement through specific support services, and thorough 
follow-up of students through counselors and advisors in their respective 
colleges, the goal for a higher standard of studentship will be attained.

4.  LEADERSHIP: Stephen C. O'Connell Center Advisory Board:
This is an excellent opportunity for students to get involved and assist 
in making decisions that affect the UF community.  Applications are 
available at the following locations: Stephen C O'Connell Center Offices, 
Peabody Information Desk, Reitz Union Information Desk, Department of 
Housing Reception Desk and the Student Activity Center.  Applications are

5.  LEADERSHIP: Project MASCOT Coordinator Positions:
Enjoy mentoring programs but interested in a leadership position?  Apply 
to be a Project MASCOT Coordinator for 2006-2007.  Be a leader in the 
service community!  Applications can be picked up at the Center for 
Leadership and Service at 202 Peabody Hall or found online at

7.  SERVICE: Rebuild Gainesville: Social Entrepreneurship in Action:
Change the World UF: Student Social Entrepreneurs is hosting UF Alumnus 
Melissa Miller of the local non-profit Rebuild Gainesville. Hear Melissa 
speak about this great project this Thursday April 6 at 8pm in Little 117. 
Then, on Saturday 8am-4pm, volunteers will meet in the parking lot behind 
Little Hall to carpool over to the jobsite.  We will be doing much needed 
repairs on a house in Gainesville (lunch and snack provided).  Sunday 
afternoon 12pm-4pm we will meet in Reitz Union meeting room 285 to be 
Social Entrepreneurs in Action, planning a curriculum for the 
organization's summer program (more snacks), and helping to ensure that 
volunteers get the most out of their experience!  Listen to a great 
speaker, volunteer, and plan for a non-profit; all great ways to get

8.  SERVICE: Bowl for Kids' Sake:
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Florida is hosting its annual Bowl for 
Kids' Sake April 8th at Alley Katz Corner from 12-6 p.m.  For as low as a 
$25 donation, you can enjoy free bowling, pizza, and drinks while 
benefiting the local mentoring organization that works to create a more 
enriched Gainesville community.  Sign up with a team of 5, or we can match 
you with a team.  Don't miss this opportunity to have a great time and

9.  ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITY: Pre-Qualification Deadline for Prestigious Scholarships:
The deadline for the University of Florida pre-qualification applications 
for the Marshall, Mitchell, and Rhodes scholarships is April 17.  These 
scholarships are designed for the exceptional senior who wishes to 
undertake one to two years of study in the United Kingdom in 2007-2008. 
The application form can be found at 
http://www.honors.ufl.edu/forms/prequalify.pdf.  Generally, a successful 
Rhodes, Marshall, or Mitchell scholar must demonstrate a high GPA, the 
potential to make a significant contribution to society, and strong 
motivation and seriousness of purpose.  The Rhodes scholarship provides 
for students to go to Oxford University; the Marshall provides for 
students to study anywhere in the United Kingdom; and the Mitchell 
provides for students to study in Ireland.  Scholarship applications are 
located at the individual websites for the scholarships: 
www.rhodesscholar.org; www.marshallscholarship.org; and www.us- 
irelandalliance.org/scholarships.html.  Information about programs at 
British universities can be obtained from the web site of the British

10. OPPORTUNITY: Gator Launch Career Mentoring Program:
Not sure what your future career plans entail?  Have an idea what you want 
to do but you're still unsure?  Could you benefit from having a mentor in 
the field you hope to enter into?  Let Gator Launch help.  Gator Launch is 
career-mentoring program that focuses on the career development of 
students from diverse populations.  Open to sophomores and juniors during 
the 2006-07 academic year, the program provides a unique mentoring 
experience coupled with professional workshops and skills to last a

11. OPPORTUNITY: Wikipedia Founder Jimbo Wales To Speak:
On April 12, Florida Free Culture is hosting a public presentation by 
"Jimbo" Wales on the topic of free culture and its role in universities. 
"Jimbo" Wales is the founder and President of the Wikimedia Foundation, a 
non-profit corporation which operates Wikipedia.com, the Internet's 
collaborative, user- edited encyclopedia.  Doors will open at 7:00pm, with 
the keynote beginning at 7:30pm in the Banquet Room of Emerson Alumni 
Hall. The keynote will be followed by a discussion panel.  For more

12. OPPORTUNITY: Myths and Misconceptions: A Panel on Religion:
This Thursday, April 6 from 6:30pm-8:00pm in McCarty C Room 100.  This 
panel, part of Religious and Spiritual Diversity Week, is meant to clarify 
some of the major misunderstandings about Judaism, Catholicism, Hinduism, 
Islam, Buddhism, and Mormonism.  Speakers include Dr. Leah Hochman, Sister 
Margaret Harig, Shreena Gandhi, Ahmed Sherif, Dr. Jason Neelis, and

13. OPPORTUNITY: National Alcohol Screening Day:
National Alcohol Screening Day will be held this Thursday, April 6 from 
11am to 1pm on the front lawn of the Student Health Care Center. 
Students can complete a brief questionnaire about alcohol use and talk 
one-on-one with a health care professional.  Free pizza will be provided 
and there will be drawings for free back massages.  For additional

14. OPPORTUNITY: Advanced Wilderness First Aid Course:
If you are active in the outdoors or interested in wilderness aid and 
rescue, then take advantage of a great opportunity being offered by 
Outdoor Adventure Recreation (OAR).  The Student Health Care Center and 
OAR are partnering to provide you with an Advanced Wilderness First Aid 
course April 8 and 9 from 8am-5pm.  It provides 3 year certification to 
cope with basic hazards and emergencies in wilderness settings such as: 
wilderness wound/burn care, biological hazards, bone and joint injuries, 
and assessing/treating other minor wilderness problems.  Please visit

15. ATHLETIC EVENT: Student Night at Women's Tennis this Friday:
Florida vs. Vanderbilt Friday, April 7 at 5pm; Linder Stadium at the Ring 
Tennis Complex (by the law school).  Free admission!  Student Raffle for 
great prizes such as an MP3 Player, Gator SportShop gift certificates, 
Gator prize packs, and more!

16. EVENT: Black Female Extravaganza:
This Saturday April 8, the ladies of "Women Raising Awareness in People" 
will be hosting the annual Black Female Extravaganza, "A Search for the 
Soul" at the Phillips Center for Performing Arts at 7pm.  This is a FREE 
event for all UF students featuring 60 women singing, dancing and acting 
in a show that is entertaining, enlightening, moving and motivational. 
Don't miss out on the show of the year!

17. EVENT: Sunshine Steelers Concert Saturday:
Sunshine Steelers, UF's steel drum band, will be having its spring concert 
on Saturday, April 8 at 4pm in the University Music Auditorium (next to 
the bell tower).  We will be hosting guest artist Tom Miller and will be 
playing a few pieces with area high school steel drum bands.  The concert 
is free so come on out to enjoy some great music!

18. EVENT: Floridance Fall Showcase Sunday:
Floridance, UF's original student-run dance company, presents their fall 
showcase "Walk This Way" at 7pm this Sunday April 9 at the Phillips Center 
for Performing Arts.  The exciting showcase will feature dynamic moderns, 
ballet, jazz and hip-hop pieces set to music from artists such as 
Aerosmith, David Gray, Pitbull and the local sensation Big City Dreams. 
Guest performances by the Hispanic Student Association, UF's Swing Club

19. EVENT: Dr. Budd Udell and Professor Reid Poole Memorial Concert:
Next Monday April 10 at 8pm the Eta Omega chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia 
(national men's music fraternity) will host the first Dr. Budd Udell and 
Professor Reid Poole Memorial Concert in the University Auditorium.  The 
concert will feature performances and works by School of Music faculty 
members Dr. Paul Basler, Prof. Ronald Burrichter, Dr. Arthur Jennings, 
Prof. Gary Langford, Dr. Leslie Odom, Dr. Russell Robinson, and Prof. 
Debbie Sperlich.  The concert is FREE and open to the public.  For more

20. EVENT: ACCENT Presents Ann Coulter and Margaret Cho:
Political commentator Ann Coulter will be speaking at the Phillips Center 
for the Performing Arts tonight at 8pm.  Doors open at 7:15pm.  The 
University of Florida Bookstore will be selling copies of Coulter's books 
at the show.  Margaret Cho, comedian and actress, will perform at the 
Stephen C. O'Connell Center next Tuesday April 11 at 8pm.  Doors open at 
7pm.  This show is cosponsored by Pride Awareness Month.  All ACCENT shows

21. EVENT: UF Film Festival:
The UF Film Festival is here again!  This is an opportunity for UF 
students to share their own thoughts on spirituality, whatever that means 
to them, through the media of film.  The festival is a free event, held 
April 11 at the Phillips Center.  There will be CASH PRIZES, judges from 
UF, FSU, and Full-Sail College, and a reception following the viewing of

22. EVENT: International Coffee House at Weaver Hall::
Have an international experience without leaving Gainesville!  Join us for 
an evening of cultural exchange - where International and American 
students meet, socialize and share cultures!  Friday, April 7 from 7-9 pm 
in the Weaver Hall first floor lounge!  Sponsored by the UFIC.

23. EVENT: VISA International Month Events:
VISA International Month presents 'Mr. and Ms. VISA: Beauty Beyond Borders 
Pageant' this Friday April 7 at 7pm in the Phillips Center for Performing 
Arts, as well as 'World Tour: Tribute to Diversity Talent Show' this 
Saturday April 8 starting at 7pm in the O'Connell Center.  Doors open at 
6pm.  International Month closing ceremony this Sunday April 9 from 
6pm-8pm in the Arredondo Room, 4th Floor Reitz Union.  Free Food, 
Give-aways, Keynote Speaker, Performances, Award Presentations and much 
more. Come out and experience what ONE LOVE is all about!  For more
