ADMINISTRATIVE ANNOUNCEMENTS
 
1.  UF IT Team: New Website is Live:
Updated content, a sharp layout, and a crisp graphic all adorn the newly 
revamped IT Security Team website which went live on May 30.  New content 
and pages were added to keep security issues current and updated as well 
as include information that may not have been covered in the previous 
website.  For instance, an entire page on how to 'clean up' your Windows 
PC was added.  This page gives users a checklist to follow which leads 
them to remove spyware, set automatic updates and maximize storage.

2.  GatorLink Announcement: UF to Charge for Dialup:
Beginning July 6, UF will charge all users of the campus dialup computer 
networking service.  A new button has been added to the GatorLink "Modify" 
Web page (labeled "I accept the monthly charge") that users must click in 
order to authorize billing for dialup service.  If you wish NOT to use 
(and pay charges for) the campus dialup service you need do nothing.  If 
you do nothing, your account will automatically be set to "I decline 
dialup service".  For those users who choose to use the service, charges 
will be $0.50/hour, with a $5.00 monthly minimum, but no charge will apply 
for any month in which you do not use the service.  For more information,

3.  UF IT Security Team:
The UF IT Security Team would like to welcome all new and returning 
students.  To learn ways to protect your computer and personal data, visit 
our website http://infosec.ufl.edu/athome.  McAfee VirusScan is available 
*FREE* to all UF students, faculty and staff.  Download it now from 
http://www.software.ufl.edu/mcafee/.  So that we might serve you better, 
please take a minute to complete our end-user survey at 
http://infosec.ufl.edu/cgi-bin/survey/ .  The UF IT security team thanks 
you for being aware and responsible.
 
 
ENHANCING THE UNDERGRADUATE EXPERIENCE
 
4.  RESEARCH: InvestiGators Research Positions Available:
The InvestiGators is an undergraduate research organization.  There are 
currently non-paid research positions OPEN with the InvestiGators dealing 
primarily with nutrition and metabolism.  The InvestiGators is comprised 
of students from various disciplines and is under the direction of Dr. 
Peggy Borum, PhD. Membership in the InvestiGators offers the unique 
opportunity to meet with Dr. Borum regularly.  The InvestiGators is made 
up of three teams: the Carnitine Team (Piglet surgeries, carnitine 
research relating to metabolism), the KetoGator Team (pediatric epilepsy 
research) and the Gator Team (pediatric HIV research). For more

5.  LEADERSHIP: Student Government Open Senate Seats:
Permanent: Building Construction, Forestry, Graham, Keys/Springs, District 
F, District D (32608).  Summer C: Health Professions, Vet-Med, Jennings, 
Pharmacy, Architecture, Freshman (1).  Summer B: Sophomore (1), Beaty.

6.  LEADERSHIP: Staff Positions for CaribSA's Fashion/Talent Showcase:
CaribSA, the largest Caribbean student-run organization on campus, is 
currently accepting applications for the 2006-2007 Fashion/Talent Showcase 
Staff.  Applications are available via email, and are due July 7 by 
10:00pm.  Please contact FTS Director Tiphani Sanders at

7.  LEADERSHIP: ACCENT Accepting Applications for Summer Staff:
ACCENT speaker's bureau, the nation's largest student run speaker's 
bureau, is looking for its summer staff.  Applications are available 
online at www.sg.ufl.edu/accent and are due Thursday July 6th by 5pm.

8.  SERVICE: Volunteers Needed for Carnival:
The SE Alachua County Boys and Girls Club will be having its first annual 
Family and Friends Carnival this Saturday, JULY 8 at 1100 SE 17th Dr. from 
11am to 6pm.  There will be food, games and prizes.  All proceeds will go 
toward the renovation of the club gym.  We are looking for volunteers for

9.  SERVICE: Light the Night Walk:
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is gearing up for their annual Light the 
Night Walk.  An evening 2- mile fundraising walk held across the country 
to build awareness of blood cancers and raise funds for cures.  It's easy

10. SERVICE: Be a Conversation Partner at the English Language Institute:
The UF English Language Institute attracts students from all over the 
world for the purposes of learning and practicing English, and we need 
your help.  By becoming a Conversation Partner Volunteer, you will get the 
chance to talk with an international student for 1 hour per week, at a 
time and place determined by you and your partner.  This can be a mutually 
beneficial exchange of culture and language.  Knowing a second language is 
not required to participate.  Please contact Troy Loker via e-mail at

11. OPPORTUNITY: Recurso Open House TODAY:
Come learn about international humanitarian service and ways to raise 
awareness and provide aid for others both locally and abroad!  Recurso 
will be hosting an Open House TODAY from 5 - 8pm in the Bryan Lounge 
located on the 1st floor of the J. Wayne Reitz Union.  The event will 
feature pictures from our annual humanitarian trips to Nicaragua and Peru; 
informational trifolds detailing HIV/AIDS, malnutrition, cancer, and 
poverty statistics observed in much of Latin America and Africa;

12. OPPORTUNITY: Cheer Gators Holding Summer Practices:
For those of you that will be in Gainesville for Summer B, Cheer Gators 
will be holding open practices every Teusday and Thursday!  The practices 
will run from 2:30pm to 4:30pm and will take place at the Southwest Rec. 
Center on Basketball Court 4.  These practices are not mandatory and no 
judges will be there, they are simply to give people a chance to stay in

13. OPPORTUNITY: TRiP Registration:
Summer B is just around the corner and that means TRiP registration is

Registration starts July 3 at 12 noon in the Outfitter, located on the

14. OPPORTUNITY: Healthy Gators 2010 Photo Project Accepting Submissions:
Be a part of Gator history as we show the campus what health at UF is all 
about.  Healthy Gators 2010 is sponsoring a photo project that encourages 
all faculty, staff and students to submit photographs of what they feel 
represent a Healthy Gator and/or a Healthy Campus.  These photos will be 
used to further the mission of Healthy Gators 2010 by promoting a 
healthier campus environment.  Be creative and show us what you've got! 
No one knows a Gator better than a Gator, so get your camera and start 
clicking. Deadline for submission is August 1.  For more information visit

15. OPPORTUNITY: Library Orientations this Week:
George A. Smathers Libraries will offer free library orientations this 
week.  Sessions will be held in Marston Science Library room L308.  No 
registration is needed.  Participants should bring their Gator-1 card to

Friday July 7, 11:00am - 12:00 noon
 
16. OPPORTUNITY: Block Seating for 2006 Football Season:
Those students who are interested in forming a block for football games 
this season need to send a representative to one of the following 
meetings: Wed. Aug. 2, 5pm in Reitz Union 282; Wed. Aug. 23, 5pm in Gator 
Room of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.  Each student who wishes to sit in a 
block must be a student season ticket holder.  Members may scan into a 
block at Gate 13 of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium Aug. 14 - 18 and 21 - 25, 
8:30am to 5pm.  Go Gators!!
 
17. OPPORTUNITY: Positions Available with Audio-Visual Services:
Audio-Visual Services is NOW HIRING crew members.  Crew Members are 
responsible for setting up professional audio, lighting, and cinema 
projection equipment for various events taking place on the University of 
Florida campus.  Please fill out online application available at 
http://www.union.ufl.edu/jobs/.  NOTE: You must select "Productions - 
Productions Tech Support" as your FIRST choice, and must be a registered 
UF student to apply!  Previous technical experience is encouraged, but not

18. EVENT: Museum Nights is Back!:
Come visit the Harn Museum and the Florida Museum of Natural History this 
Thursday July 6th from 5-10 pm for free food catered by The Swamp and live 
music by Scott Effman. After viewing the Harn's American Matrix exhibit, 
enjoy dinner with friends at the Camellia Court Cafe.  At the Florida 
Museum, visit Quilting Natural Florida featuring contemporary quilts that 
portray Florida natural history themes.
 
19. EVENT: Gatormania 2006 this Saturday:
The Dean of Students Office-Multicultural and Diversity Affairs is hosting 
Gatormania 2006.  Student organizations across campus are sponsoring the 
event.  Gatormania is free and open to the public.

20. EVENT: Weeks of Welcome:
The Dean of Students Office would like to invite you to join us for the 
Weeks of Welcome (WOW!) program throughout the Summer B semester! 
Several departments and organizations have planned a variety of social and 
educational events throughout the first few weeks of the semester to 
welcome new and continuing students to the university.  Events include 
BBQs, service learning opportunities, organization fairs, a Multicultural 
Student Assembly, and Gatormania, a cultural festival.  For a detailed
