4th Workshop on Link Analysis, Counterterrorism and Security 2006 - Call

for Papers

Held in conjunction with the SIAM - SDM 06 on 20th April 2006.

http://www.cs.rit.edu/~amt/linkanalysis06/

With the increasing amount of data available electronically the
need for tools and techniques to extract, analyze, and make sense of
massive social data sets, many of which have strong temporal and
geographic features, has escalated. This has led to dramatic increase
in research in areas such as link analysis, social network analysis,
dynamic network analysis, text analysis, data mining and machine
learning. Research in areas such as link analysis, social network
analysis, dynamic network analysis, and text analysis has a long
history. It is important to understand how information flows in
organizations, how people form relationships and connections, and how
these processes affect decision-making. Results of this research have
been applied to understand pathologies in organizations: how collusion
and fraud reveal themselves in the links within and among organizations.

This year we will encourage both the practical and theoretical
perspectives to solving problems related to mining large-scale dynamic
social network datasets including the Enron e-mail dataset, instant
messaging logs and online blog sources. In addition to the objectives of
previous years we specifically wish to bring together social network
statisticians with computer science data miners.

The workshop attracts a mixture of academics, and security and
counterterrorism practitioners. It provides a venue in which to present
early work in relevant areas. Online proceedings will be created, and
hardcopy proceedings will be available to conference attendees (and
through SIAM afterwards). However, authors may retain copyright.

Industrial organizations with products suitable for analyzing
large datasets related to the theme of the workshop may also wish to
participate, either directly in the workshop or in an industrial track
in the main conference.

Topics of Interest Include: Link analysis, Graph mining,
Relational data mining, Social Network Analysis, Dynamic network
analysis, Web mining applied to security and counterterrorism, Text
mining applied to security and counterterrorism, Scalability of
algorithms, Visualization of link structures, Performance evaluation
measures, Innovative applications related to link analysis, Privacy
issues, Novel Applications.
