All,
We have not seen the Monk parakeets or their nests here in sometime. If anyone in St. Augustine has any information about Monk parakeets in St. Augustine, I would love to know about it.
thanks

This is in response to Kevin Dailey's interesting post on the monk parakeet
colony on Black Hammock Island.
Local birders have known about this colony for the last few years. Since that
area is included in our Christmas Count circle, these birds have been included
in our count every year. Last year we reported 20 individuals.
Historically, there was a nest in downtown Jacksonville 20 or more years ago,
but it didn't last very long. There have also been nests in St. Augustine, one
of the biggest near the Conch House restaurant. This was removed and I don't
know where the birds went.
