Last week I contacted Kevin Anderson from Austin's Hornsby Bend
Biosolids facility to learn more about their operations. Yesterday
he sent me this educational brochure that describes the facility
for visitors.
Water hyacinths are still used at the front end of the greenhouse
polishing facility, ostensibly to maximize removal of residual
heavy metals at the beginning of the influent stream. Native
species such as Lemna (duckweed) and Wolfia are primarily used
throughout the rest of the greenhouse. Harvested biomass from all
of these are incorporated into the Dillo-Dirt compost.
