This is a posting sent to the Sustainable Alachua County, Inc. discussion list. SAC members may post up to 2 messages each day relating to the topic of sustainability.
Attached is a forward I received today - is there any info we can share with them or are folks available to pull together a rally event?

NRDC's EARTH ACTION:
The Bulletin for Environmental Activists
September 13, 2006
Dear Gainesville-area Earth Activist,
NRDC is bringing our "Drive Beyond Oil" campaign to Gainesville!
Between October 5th and 11th, NRDC experts will be driving across Florida in
two new gasoline-saving vehicles -- a hybrid SUV and a flex-fuel car -- to show
how such technologies can cut our dependence on oil. Hybrid vehicles run
partially on electricity generated while driving, and flex-fuel vehicles can
run on alcohol-based fuels such as ethanol. Both types of vehicles can
dramatically reduce our gasoline consumption.
We are asking for your help to make our Drive Beyond Oil roadtrip a success. We
will be in Gainesville on October 8th and are looking for local activists to
help us plan community-education events, such as an informal gathering to
discuss breaking America's addiction to oil, or a hybrid vehicles rally. We
also would appreciate any personal contact information for local reporters,
organizations, elected officials or others in your area with whom we should
meet to spread this important message. No one knows the local area better than
people who live there -- like you.
If you would like to pitch in with this effort to curb America's addiction to
oil or can offer any local contacts, please email or call either John Grant
[[log in to unmask] / 202-289-2383] or Meredith McFadden [[log in to unmask] / 202-
513-6240] and provide your daytime phone number (which we won't share with
anyone, of course). Please feel free to forward this message to others who
might want to get involved, and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
P.S. FromOctober 5th through 11th you can track our roadtrippers' progress
(and post your comments and questions) at the Drive Beyond Oil blog
[http://drivebeyondoil.typepad.com/] -- so be sure to check it out!
