The Organization Studies department of the Carroll School of Management at
Boston College invites applications from qualified individuals for a senior
faculty position as the Research Director for the newly founded Winston
Center for Leadership and Ethics. The primary scholarly emphasis of the
person hired should be in leadership, broadly defined, with scholarly
interests in ethics a plus.
Personally, I would love to see a network scholar in this position.
The activities of the center include directing, energizing, and sponsoring
scholarly research related to the mission of the center, and developing
activities that support research such as colloquia, workshops, conferences,
and publications. As Research Director the candidate will be expected to
provide scholarly leadership for the center and will have an opportunity to
shape the center's mission, especially its research agenda. The Center also
has a Program Director who arranges teaching activities and colloquia and an
Assistant Director who is responsible for its day to day operations.
Some key domains of scholarly inquiry for the Winston Center include:
- The relational and emotional activities by which leaders communicate and
- The dynamics of leadership in creating communities around ideologies,
identities and change.
- The process by which leadership creates meaning, infuses value, and
directs principled, ethical action in institutions.
- The structures and networks by which leadership influences ethically
grounded thinking and action in organizations.
- The potency of leadership ethics and values under ambiguity and in
dealing with moral or other dilemmas.
Candidates must have a PhD or related degree and must be at the associate or
full professor level. They must have a proven record of top tier scholarly
publications, and must also demonstrate competence at teaching. The person
hired will be a member of the Organizational Studies Department and teach a
reduced course load.
Applicants should send a cover letter declaring their interest in this
position, a full scholarly vita, and a list of at least three references to:
