Sure, Roy, but "USA" in Greek alphabet starts with an "eta" and so
it's more up on the top (the seventh letter). By the way, my personal
interpretation of why most people in Greece use the acronym "USA"
instead of the full name "United States (of America)" is that perhaps
they consider it awkward to name a state with a general and non
geographic or non historical determinant - considering "united" too
generic and vague in this sense (perhaps in consistence with the
Aristotelian rules of ordering). For instance, it seems to me that
many Greeks do not know which is the country named "United Kingdom."
However, there are counterexamples: some Greeks use the name "Polis"
(meaning "city") for Istanbul (Constantinople in Greek) and "Politeia"
(meaning "state") is a suburb of Athens..
Regards and best wishes for the new year,
