RE: LEGAL TRANSLATION & INTERPRETATION WORKSHOP: 14 MAY - 22 JUNE 2007
The UF Translation Studies Certificate Program will offer a new workshop
Summer A 2007: "Legal Translation and Interpretation." The goals of this
workshop are to study translation and interpretation techniques aimed at a
professional level of performance in legal settings, as well as an overview
of the legal field, its business practices and code of ethics. To achieve
this goal, students will translate a variety of real legal documents and
practice the skill of interpretation in common legal proceedings.
The workshop will be taught by Mr. Antonio Gil, a faculty member of the UF
Department of Romance Languages and Literatures. Mr. Gil is an experienced
legal interpreter and translator. He serves as interpreter in the Circuit
Court of Lane County, Oregon, the Federal Court for the Northern District of
Florida, and the Circuit Court of the Eighth District of Florida, as well as
for attorneys in Florida and Oregon. The class will meet Tuesdays and
Thursdays, 5:00 p.m. - 8:15 p.m., in 376 Grinter Hall.
