RE:        SPICE Graduate Fellowships 2007-2008 Applications Due March 23


SPICE (Science Partners in Inquiry-based Collaborative Education) is a
partnership between Alachua County public schools and the University of
Florida through which graduate students on fellowship can develop their
teaching and outreach skills while strengthening STEM (science, technology,
engineering and mathematics) instruction in public schools and sparking
adolescents' interest in those disciplines and career paths.

This National Science Foundation GK-12 program is looking for current
graduate students to commit to the program for two years. During the first
year, they will spend about two days a week in public schools. During the
second year, they will spend around two days a month in public schools. The
theme of this year's program is Ecosystem Health, but participating graduate
students do not need to be doing research about ecosystem health; they only
need to have an interest in it.

Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents majoring in the
sciences, engineering or mathematics. Chosen applicants receive training and
support from SPICE, along with a fellowship during the first year and a
stipend during the second. Applications for this program are due Friday, 23
March 2007.
