RE:         SUMMER & FALL 2007 TRANSLATION PROGRAM COURSES 


The UF Translation Studies Certificate (TSC) Program, in the UF Center for
Latin American Studies, is open to undergraduate, graduate and non-degree
students in all majors. It prepares students for a career in translation or
enhances career opportunities in fields where translation skills make one
more marketable. The student receives the certificate after completion of 15
credits (three required courses and two electives).

Requirements

Language proficiency: candidates for the program must have intermediate to
native speaker proficiency in the source language and advanced to native
speaker proficiency in the target language.

Educational credentials: sandidate can be an undergraduate or graduate
student in any major. Non-degree students must already have a bachelor of
arts or bachelor of science degree.
       
Entrance and exit tests: new candidates need to take an entrance test to
assure their language proficiency and competence in translating in their
language pair (source and target language).  

Required courses: (1) Theory & Practice of Translation, (2) Terminology and
Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT), and (3) Translation Studies Practicum
(internship, capstone project or research paper).
