The Coastal Geology Lab in the Dept. of Geological Sciences is looking to fill an OPS position in
simple system administration and computer programming. We are small group of faculty,
researchers, and students working on funded projects to investigate coastal response to sea level
rise and changes in wave energy associated with climate change.
The successful applicant will (1) Manage a group of computers related to the Coastal Geomorphic
Evolution Modeling project (2) Write, test, debug, and document computer programs, (3) Run
numerical simulations for various geologic and oceanographic investigations, (4) Maintain
program files and output (help establish an organized data base), (5) ?
Modify and maintain existing computer systems as necessary.
Opportunities exist for cluster work, parallel-computing, and open-source projects. Weekly
meetings with the project supervisor will be scheduled, as needed, to ensure progress.
Desired skills include demonstrated proficiency with UNIX/LINUX, FORTRAN, MATLAB, and an
ability to stay organized. Hours flexible, and pay range commensurate with skills.
