Shot in the dark here, but maybe you need to authenticate to the windows server's active directory.

Hey all,

I have been having some problems getting this to work, I was hoping
someone might have some input on the subject.


Description of the Problem:

I am trying to connect to my departments central print server from my
Fedora 7 Laptop + CUPS.

As far as I can tell the Server (I assume the latest version of windows
server) is running the Windows Internet Printing Protocol.


What I have tried:

I can connect to the server through firefox and browse the printers.

http://10.xxx.xx.xx/printers/

I have to log in with my UF username and password. So I assume there has
to be authentication with the print server.

I have also tried the following with the CUPS web interface and the
gnome GUI for cups.

I have been trying to connect through cups using the Internet printing
protocol (ipp). I have tried the following.

http://10.xxx.xx.xx/printers/<description>/.printer

I figured the above did not satisfy the authentication needs so I tried
this.

[log in to unmask]" target="_blank">http://username:[log in to unmask]<description>/.printer

This did not work, and I assume it is sending my username and password
in clear text, so I did not like doing this.

I have also tried using samba

smb://10.xxx.xx.xx/printers/<description>/.printer


What I have not tried:

I have not messed with any of the *.conf files. I assume since I am not
trying to serve a printer I don't need to adjust anything in cupsd.conf
and as far as I could tell printers.conf has no only setting that I have
added through the gui


I don't know if any one has messed with this on either side
(workstation/server) but I would appreciate any input. I am really in
the dark when it comes to cups and windows servers. I am kind of stuck
on how the server is set up, I don't want to deal with our IT guy.
