Academic Strategies: Assistant Professor
The University of Hartford's Hillyer College seeks a non-tenure-track
Assistant Professor in the Department of Academic Strategies. The Academic
Strategies courses introduce the new student to diverse academic content,
emphasizing learning strategies and critical thinking skills in preparation
for rigorous college study. The successful candidate must be able to provide
instruction in areas of learning styles, study skill development, critical
reading, and critical thinking. Doctorate in student development, education,
or related field and previous college-level teaching required as well as a
strong commitment to creating a student-centered learning environment,
providing academic advising, and pursuing professional development.
Hillyer College offers a two-year liberal arts curriculum specifically
designed for capable yet under-prepared students whose high school
performances do not match their academic potentials. Hillyer faculty members
are expected to provide students with a structured and supportive college
experience in small classes.
This position is available until filled but for best consideration,
candidates should submit materials by March 2, 2007. Qualified applicants
should send a letter detailing their interests as well as qualifications, a
copy of transcripts, curriculum vitae, and three letters of recommendation
to: Department of Academic Strategies, Att: George F. Blett, Ph.D., Chair,
Hillyer College, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West
Hartford, CT 06117. Members of under-represented groups are encouraged to
apply. EEO/AA/M/F/D/V.
