Robert,
Did you find any good strategies to deal with the turn over? I find myself in much the same boat, and have yet to find what I consider a good solution. Feel free to email me off list if you have an answer or want to compare notes.

Exactly. I wish we could hire some of our tutors once they graduate, but we
cannot unless they start a graduate program here. We simply do not have
funding to hire tutors who are not current undergraduate or graduate
students.
One of the biggest challenges in running a learning center that is almost
totally student staffed is the constant turnover and the constant need to
hire new students every single term.
At a previous institution that had quarters it was as if I was constantly
hiring, interviewing and training tutors every single month. Once you got
fully staffed the term was over and some of the tutors either graduated,
went out on co-op, or found a higher paying job.

I have been watching this thread all day, and I finally must comment on it.
Cannot resist any longer. I just cannot understand why anyone would feel it
was a good idea to set a limit on the number of semesters during which one
may serve as a tutor. A good tutor is continually honing the skills needed
to improve as a tutor. Why would one want to deprive one's school of tutors
whose skills those at the school worked to improve? Are tutors considered
to be adjunct faculty and the school wants to keep the percentage of
adjuncts below a certain level?

Me too. I am trying to get enough responses to get the limit revoked.

Josue- I was curious if you know the reason why your school limits the
time the tutors are there.

Durham Technical CC does not have a limit, either. We almost
exclusively employ professional tutors; most are adjunct instructors.
Amelia
Students, please register early and pay early for Fall Semester 2007
credit classes to avoid longer lines and slower processing times during
General and Late Registration. We expect longer lines with the first
use of a new student registration system. Registration for Fall
Semester begins July 9. See an advisor in June or July.

Hello,
I have a question. The school I currently work at has a limit on
the number of semesters a professional tutor can work. Do you also have
limitations like this?
Thank you,
