Research studentship opportunity
THE PATTERNS, ORGANISATION AND GOVERNANCE OF ECONOMIC CRIMES: ENHANCING THE EVIDENCE BASE
Professor Mike Levi has received a 3 year ESRC professorial fellowship to conduct research on fraud
and other financial crimes (e.g. corruption, money laundering) and their governance, which will
commence in autumn 2007. He is looking for a PhD. student who will be funded by ESRC and, inter
alia, to carry out analysis of crime networks derived from banking and insurance databases. Other
aspects of the research relate to public-private partnerships and to the global 'fight' against
corruption, money laundering and organised crime, but the student would have the opportunity to
develop their own agenda within these broad parameters. This studentship represents an excellent
opportunity for someone to develop skills and networks in an area of growing commercial,
intellectual and social importance.
The candidate must have a strong interest in analysing and accounting for financial crime patterns
and the ability to talk to businesspeople and policy-makers about their work.
It would be preferable but not necessary for the researcher to be based in Cardiff.
Preferred start date October 2007 but will consider later start date.
