Adaptive Management: Water and Watershed Systems

Course content: This class adopts a "systems approach" to the study of
watersheds and introduces the fundamentals of Adaptive Management of
watersheds, theoretical foundations of the water-related sciences, and
illustrates the complex interactions between humans and nature in
watersheds using a case studies approach. We will address the management
implications of how water is organized into watersheds, and water's
importance to ecosystem function, as well as the socio-economic, legal,
and political forces that shape the exploitation and management of
watersheds. The course is team taught and is organized around a
reading/discussion/lecture format.
