Postdoctoral Position in Social Network Analysis using SIENA
The Center for Developmental Research, Örebro University, Sweden
announces a 2-year postdoctoral research position. The position is
funded by a EUROCORES grant to a consortium led by Tom Snyders for
analyses of network-behavioral models performed with the SIENA software
program http://stat.gamma.rug.nl/siena.html.
The datasets to be used involve adolescent friendship networks. The
largest dataset is from a 5-wave study of all youths from ages 10 to 18
in one community (N ≈ 3100 at each wave). The youths reported their 3
most important peers (friends, romantic partners, or siblings) and their
in-school and out-of-school peer groups. Also included are: problem
behaviors such as delinquency and alcohol use; internalizing problems
such as depression, shyness, and low self-esteem; many aspects of
parent-youth relationships; personal characteristics such as
psychopathic personality traits, impulsivity, fearlessness, anxiety,
attention problems, hyperactivity; and more. Altogether, this
longitudinal data set covers more than 4,500 individual items per
subject. The successful candidate will have much freedom to develop his
or her own research. In addition, he or she should be able to work
together with others in the research group to conduct network analyses
of different substantive issues. The working language at the Center
(http://www.oru.se/templates/oruExtIntroPageLevel2____31149.aspx) is
English, and there is much communication and cooperation among
researchers. The working atmosphere is collegial and supportive. The
salary is competitive: 32000 Swedish Crowns per month (3400 Euro or
$4700 USD per month at current exchange rates). We can help with finding
housing.
The successful candidate should have excellent data analytic skills,
excellent writing skills, and knowledge and interest in the area of
social network analysis.
Applicants may send a CV and a 2-3 page description of (1) data analytic
skills, (2) research interests, and (3) prior research experience by
February 1, 2008, to Håkan Stattin [log in to unmask] or Margaret
Kerr [log in to unmask] They should also provide the names and
contact information for three referees who know their work well.
Questions can be addressed to Stattin, Kerr, or William J. Burk
http://www.oru.se/templates/oruExtNormal____29082.aspx, who has held a
postdoctoral position with the EUROCORES-SIENA project in Örebro for the
past 2.5 years.
