The Entertainment and Sports Law Society, in conjunction with the Law
College Council, the Sports and Entertainment Business Society, and the
Undergraduate Sports Management Club, will be conducting the inaugural UF
Sports Symposium: From the Locker Room to the Board Room on Friday, February
8 in the Auditorium of the Reitz Union. This event is free and open to all
UF students.
Panels and speakers will run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and guests may come at
any point during the event and stay as long as they like.
The purpose of this event is to give students a 360-degree view of the world
of sports from the time an athlete is recruited out of high school, to their
college career, to their decision to go pro, and to their life after sports.
To accomplish this, we will be having four panels: coaches, players, agents,
and sports executives, as well as two keynote speakers. These panels will be
of an open Q&A format so students will have ample opportunity to ask
questions to all of our panelists.
Panelists include:
UF great and Team Florida head coach, Shane Matthews.
Arnie Fielkow, former VP of the New Orleans Saints.
Marc Isenberg, author of Money Players: A Guide to Succeed in Sports,
Business & Life for Current and Future Pro Athletes.
Joe Favorito, SVP of Communications for the International
Fight League, former VP of PR for the Knicks, and founder of Sports
Marketing and PR Roundup.
Glenn Schwartzman, sports agent at Alliance Sports Management.
David Canter, President and CEO of DEC Management.
Michael Huyghue, CEO of Axcess Sports & Entertainment and Commissioner of
the new United Football League (UFL).
Mike Hill, Assistant Athletic Director for External affairs at the
University of Florida.
Many more speakers are scheduled and will be announced as they are
confirmed.
We want to use this symposium as means to educate our student body on the
complex business and legal aspects of the world of sports.
We hope that all students can attend for at least a portion of this great
event. There is no need for pre-registration: just show up, grab a seat, and
find out what happens to athletes, from the locker room to the board room.
