The Soil and Water Science Department is pleased to announce that this
year's Hubbell Seminar speaker will be Gary Sayler. Dr. Sayler is the
Beaman Distinguished Professor of Microbiology, and Ecology and
Evolutionary Biology at the University of Tennessee. In addition to
being director of UT's Center for Environmental Biotechnology, he was
recently named the first Director of the UT-ORNL Joint Institute for
Biological Sciences at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Gary is a leader in the development and application of novel
technologies to remediation of contaminated lands, and is at the cutting
edge of combining electrical engineering with microbiology to develop
highly innovative systems for monitoring bioremediation strategies.
He has won numerous awards, including being named one of the country's
most innovative scientists by Discover magazine. For more information on
