Dear Colleagues,

We are soliciting abstracts to the upcoming Joint Assembly, 27-30 May
2008, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for the Special Session (H21) entitled

"Monitoring the Terrestrial Water Cycle Through the Merger of Land
Surface Models and Remote Sensing Observations from Field Experiments".
This session (description below) will provide a forum for showcasing the
latest advancements in merging land surface modeling with remote sensing
technologies from field experiments. Please consider submitting an
abstract to this unique session. Feel free to forward this to interested
colleagues who may have been inadvertently left off the list.

ABSTRACT DEADLINE: no later than 2359 UT 5, March, 2008. Late abstract
submissions are NOT accepted. Please visit
http://www.agu.org/meetings/ja08/ for more details.

H21: Monitoring the Terrestrial Water Cycle Through the Merger of Land
Surface Models and Remote Sensing Observations from Field Experiments

Over the past several years several research investigations have focused
on developing remote sensing-based techniques for monitoring and
evaluating precipitation, runoff, soil moisture, and evaporation. Field
experiments at local, watershed, and regional scales, such as the recent
Cloud and LAnd Surface Interaction Campaign (CLASIC), the Soil Moisture
Experiments (SMEX), Cold Land Processes Experiment (CLPX), North
American, Monsoon Experiment (NAME), National Airborne Field Experiment
(NAFE), Microwave Water and Energy Balance Experiments (MicroWEX), and
others supported by NASA and the Global Energy and Water Cycle
Experiment (GEWEX), have been conducted to help develop, calibrate, and
validate such techniques. For this session we invite papers that
describe studies involved in merging remote sensing data with land
surface schemes for modeling spatially distributed hydrologic fluxes
from local to regional scales. Papers developing novel data assimilation
approaches and/or investigating the integration of remote sensing data
at multiple wavelengths (e.g., microwave and thermal) are particularly
encouraged.
