This documentary is about the food we eat and the consequences of
industrialized farming. We're screening the acclaimed documentary
"King Corn," the story of two Boston city boys who return to their
ancestral roots in Iowa to grow an acre of corn. Learn the strange
economics of corn growing, where the farmer gets less for the crop
than the cost of growing it. with the difference made up by government
subsidies. The result is a farm industry that's become a fossil-fuel
dependent mono culture, increasingly dominated by big players. For the
American consumer, it's an amazing array of food (or what passes for
it) derived from the corn plant, so pervasive in our diets that the
unique carbon signature of corn dominates our own composition.
What's next for corn now that it's in everything we eat? Stay
afterwards for a discussion as we look at the pluses and minuses of
corn as a fuel for our bodies and our vehicles.
Hope to see you tonight,
Harry
