The School of Engineering Education at Purdue University Post-doctoral
Fellow or Research Scientist Position
We invite applications for a Post Doctoral Fellow or Research
Scientist Position to work on a follow up study to Professors Ruth
Streveler and Karl Smith's NSF-CCLI Rigorous Research in Engineering
Education (RREE) project.
The three-year RREE project involved working with 150 predominantly
engineering faculty members to develop their capabilities to conduct
engineering education research. The focus of this position is follow
up of the participants to learn about the longer-term impact of the
project, that is, how it affected the participants' thinking, their
work and that of their colleagues, as well as their departments and
institutions.
Research experience and skills in qualitative and mixed-methods
research, as well as familiarity with communities of practice, social
network theory, and related theoretical frameworks is a prerequisite.
A PhD in fields such as education, sociology, anthropology is desired.
The holder of the position will take the lead on designing and
conducting the research and publishing the results. The successful
applicant for this position should be able to work independently and
should possess expertise in both quantitative and qualitative
methodologies. Strong research, written, and verbal skills are
required.
Starting date is flexible but should fall between August 15, 2008 and
September 15, 2008. Twelve months of funding is available. Salary is
dependent upon experience. Benefits are included in the compensation
package.
