a question for the urban sociologists: Could anyone point me to research that examines the nature of personal networks in small towns versus large cities in industrialized countries?
I ask for reasons of idle curiosity, based on my own counterintuitive anecdotal observation that it's easier to build an extensive personal network, including both weak and strong ties, in New York City than in the small university town where I dwell during the academic year.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
