Tim,

Yes, this is a topic of continued interest and discussion among the
reviewers and coordinators of CRLA's International Tutor Program
Certification (ITPC). Here's a note from Olga Thurman, Assistant
Coordinator:

"ITPC
has had some very serious discussion about this very matter. I also
think that online training is valuable and it is a very important part
of the training. What I did not hear (or read) is the manner of
evaluating and assigning value to the online training. If it is a matter
of taking tests or completing an assignment, then I guess there is some
sort of indication as to the level of internalization or learning that
has taken place. If not, then what has actually happened and how does
one assign a value?

"My tutors always submit a "verification form" that consists of a set of
topic-specific open-ended questions that(hopefully) allow the tutors to
tell me what they actually have taken from the online or f2f training
and how they can apply the training daily. The value I apply for
training purposes relates more to their responses than how many
minutes/hours they sat in a meeting or at the computer.

"As Assistant Coordinator of CRLA's ITPC I will say that there is an
ongoing dialogue regarding this issue and we welcome any/all input.
