Subject: [s-aesdirs] FYI: Biomass Farm Bill Funding
Southern Directors -
Just to clarify any misconception regarding the biomass funding provided by the new Farm Bill, there will not be any funding under this provision during FY 2008. There is $20 million for Biomass R & D in the Farm bill, but starting in FY09. The RFA is expected to be out between Nov of this year to Jan of next year. I have attached the Farm Bill legislation for Biomass R & D from Section 9008, pages 439 to 442. The mandatory funding is now $20 million in FY 09, $28 million in FY10, $30 million in FY 11, and $40 million in FY 12.
The $30 million for the Specialty Crop Research Initiative is the only mandatory funding available in FY 08. For an excellent brief explanation of the Farm Bill highlights of interest to the LGUs, including a summary table of new funding, see the attached PDF document.
Thanks Eric
