Spring Semester 2009 is the last semester tuition waivers can be used by international graduate students for the AWE Academic Writing course, EAP 5845, required of all students who were admitted conditionally in graduate academic units and who cannot get a passing grade on the required Screening Test. The Screening Test that conditionally admitted students MUST take to determine their status regarding the academic writing requirements of UF will be given on 21 November 2008, at 4:00 p.m. All of the information concerning the test is on our website: www.lin.ufl.edu/sw.html.
(1) Students MUST pre-register for the test, as described on the webpage noted above.
(2) Students CANNOT register for EAP 5845 by themselves. Once they take the test and the test scores are available, the AWE program will place those who did not pass the test into the available sections of EAP 5845.
(3) Currently there are only 24 places in the two sections of EAP 5845.
We need to know the number of students who have to take EAP 5845 in order to petition for funding to add more sections, if possible. We need to have all international students currently on campus take the Screening Test this semester.
Consequently, we ask for your cooperation and understanding. It would be very helpful if graduate coordinators would go through the files of all international students in your academic units to find all conditionally admitted students and inform them immediately of the situation. AWE is receiving emails from students indicating that they do not fully understand the situation. If you have some international students who were not admitted conditionally, but who are interested in taking the course, they also need to take the Screening Test and may be placed in the course if there is space. First priority goes to those who must take the course.
Please let me know how I can help you with issues related to this requirement.
