The University of Florida Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) is pleased to announce a call for graduate student applicants to a new pre-doctoral T32 training program. This program provides clinical and translational research training for pre-doctoral students performing research in any health-related field using a team science approach. This new program is part of the UF CTSI Training and Professional Development Program to provide doctoral students with the skills required to develop a career in multidisciplinary clinical and translational research relevant to human health. 

The CTSI T32 program offers a minor concentration in Clinical and Translational Science (CTS) for pre-doctoral students who are:
-- Interested in developing a career in multidisciplinary, translational biomedical research in any health-related field using a team science approach.
-- Entering their second or third year of graduate study in 2009-10.  
-- Seeking PhDs from partner graduate programs in the following colleges: 
   Agricultural & Life Science
   Dentistry
   Engineering
   Fine Arts
   Health & Human Performance
   Liberal Arts & Sciences\
   Medicine
   Nursing
   Pharmacy
   Public Health & Health Professions
   Veterinary Medicine

Support: Up to six positions will be funded for 1-2 years each, including stipend ($20,976), tuition waiver, GatorGradCare health insurance via a Graduate Research Assistantship, and a $1,000 travel allowance to present research at a scientific meeting during the second year of support. Colleges or departments may supplement the stipend if necessary to match the level of other graduate students in their graduate program. The first year of support funding period will be August 16, 2009 through August 15, 2010.

T32 Objectives:

Recruit and select highly qualified applicants who will develop a career in multidisciplinary clinical and translational research. 

Provide trainees very early in their careers with the didactic instruction, participation in multidisciplinary "team research," and mentored research experience needed to undertake innovative clinical & translational research. 

Increase motivation for selection into health-relevant multidisciplinary clinical and translational research careers among the participating students. 

Aligned with the NIH focus on translational research to bridge the gap between basic science and improved human health, scholars will develop skill sets to lead and participate effectively in team-oriented translational science, to gain an advantage in preparing for successful careers in academia. 

T32 Training Components:
-- Mentored research project, with dual mentoring by basic and clinician scientists.
-- Didactic training in team science and interdisciplinary and translational research.
-- Shared educational experiences with student and faculty scholars from other training programs.
