RE:     English Language course offerings Summer B 2009 


During Summer B 2009, the following English language courses are available to UF students through Academic Spoken English and the English Language Institute. Please check the following course descriptions. If you are interested in taking either of these courses, please contact the ASE office - 392-3286 or email us at [log in to unmask]  
 
ASEP 1 (Formerly EAP 5835/ASE 1) -- $450 - http://ase.ufl.edu/syllabi.html 
This course meets four hours per week during the 6-week Summer B 2009 semester. Monday - Thursday, 4th period (12:30 pm - 1:45 pm) in Yon 320.
-- You will work with a course instructor and one - two native English-speaking language assistants (i.e. increased native speaker contact!) 
-- There are 4 hours per week of classroom instruction, which includes: 
   -- 2 personalized speech evaluations (beginning & end of the semester). 
   -- Supervised pronunciation practice in the language laboratory. 
   -- Oral presentations which will be recorded and reviewed with native speakers. 
   -- Practice exercises (including worksheets and mp3 files) for pronunciation improvement outside of class. 
-- This course can be especially helpful for international graduate students who need to pass the SPEAK Test in order to secure a graduate assistantship, or perspective students who will have to take the spoken part of the TOEFL iBT. 

ASEP 3 (Formerly EAP 5937/EAP 5937) -- $450 -- http://ase.ufl.edu/syllabi3.html  
-- This is an Advanced oral communication skills in English course 
-- This course meets 4 hours per week during the 6-week Summer B 2009 semester.  Monday - Thursday 5th period (2:00 pm - 3:15 pm) in Yon 320. 
-- You will work with a course instructor and one - two native English-speaking language assistants (i.e. increased native speaker contact!) 
-- There are 4 hours per week of classroom instruction, and a one hour biweekly conference with the course instructor: 
   -- Oral Academic presentations which will be recorded and reviewed with native speakers.   
   -- Practice job interviews 
   -- One-on-one Prosody work/Accent reduction with the course instructor. 
-- This course can be especially helpful for international students who are getting ready to graduate from the university or from a language institute and are seeking academic or industry employment.
